I just moved to the area and decided to venture to the markets yesterday.
I'm sorry to say that the experience was not great. The persons who were running several of the larger produce stalls were unpleasant and rude. I asked several of these stalls if their produce was spray free or Organic in a way that was polite, friendly, and non confrontational. What I got from them were evil looks and under the breath comments. One person literally tried to start a verbal fight with me which I evaded by saying I hope they have a good day and then hastily walking away.
This attitude from people who depend on others to buy their products is not great for their business and quite frankly makes me feel uncomfortable to return. I was honestly worried that one person was going to follow and barade me further - This person was a short, skinny, brown haired mousy looking man who's stall was on the side of Regent Street near the ressesed stone gazebo not far from Brooklyn Bagels.
I'm unfortunately now going to avoid and continue to venture to Mona Vale where people are nicer and their produce is in line with what I'm willing to buy.
I'd give no stars for the above experience, but I very much enjoyed the interactions from the persons working in the pastured meat stall. Their products and customer service was...
Read moreIt was my first visit to the Northside Produce Markets, and it was such an absolute treat. It was very easy to get to by public transport with the markets located just a few minutes' walk from the Miller St North exit of the Victoria Cross Metro station. It is also not too far of a walk from the nearby bus stops or North Sydney train station as well.
There were many nuggets of golden finds with a good variety of stalls available. Highlights for me: Friendly stallholders for the ones I visited today. There was a stall that sold padron peppers & shishito peppers that i have not seen in other fruit & vegetables shops or markets The very decent coffee from the Toby's Estate stall. The Hearthe stall that had beautiful baked goods using native ingredients The variety of stalls as a whole for the market but also the variety in catering for different dietary requirements like gluten free, vegetarian and vegan Well spaced and good layout of stalls around the park Tables and chairs for patrons to sit and enjoy food & drinks. The stalls I patroned accepted cash or card. The availability of fresh food, drinks and flowers.
I would definitely be back again for the upcoming markets and looking...
Read moreIf you have forgotten what real fruit and veggies taste like, do yourself a favour and make the trip. I love interacting with the growers who take obvious pride in their produce, and for good reason. Veggies that have resilience, fruit that tastes like it was picked that morning, produce that looks like actual produce, not the plastic clone like specimens found in the supermarket. If you are adventurous you will always find varieties of veggies that you never knew existed. I have always had a very positive experience at the market.
If you are going to bellyache about prices, then go back to the supermarket and the piles of rock hard produce that have been sitting in cold storage for six months or longer. I am more than happy to support our local small farms, and as long as the produce stays this tasty I will never grumble about the...
