El Indio Bondi Beach — Restaurant in Sydney

Family of five on holidays from Brisbane and looking for something fun for our first night in Bondi. The weather was terrible with howling winds and bucketing rain but we made it into the warm interior and met the friendly face of our host. The restaurant itself is small and there weren't many tables big enough for a family however our host was helpful in pushing tables together and when another table became available asked whether we would like to move to this new spot which we happily accepted, but we're also happy to stay in the existing spot. The restaurant had a rustic charm with south American music which was enjoyable. We ordered the vegetarian bowls and arepas with a side of house made chilli sauce. The food was amazing. The eggplant was so flavorsome, such a simple dish but absolutely delicious. We enjoyed our dinner so much we requested the menu again to order dessert. There are two on the menu, a dulce Le leche cheesecake and a lemon dessert. Both were to die for. My favourite was the lemon olguitos dessert which was fresh and tangy. I just had the worst restaurant experience in my life. I would give 0 stars if I could. I booked a table to dine inside for my mothers birthday (Side note: my mom travelled from overseas to celebrate her birthday with us and we were especially looking forward to a great and carefree day after having had to worry about her parkinsons diagnosis for the last 5 months). We called 30 minutes prior to let them know we were running 5 minutes late. As we arrived there was no table available. Not only that but they let us stand in the corner awkwardly for a good 5 minutes before they admitted they had stuffed it up. At this point I was expecting them to offer us to sit outside (10 degrees) with a glass of wine on the house until they would be able to give us a table - I would have been fine with that. But nope… they only offered us to wait outside. Thanks for nothing… worst customer...

This place has been consistently excellent for years and is one of my wife’s ‘happy places’ and was her pick for an anniversary dinner, however was let down somewhat this time by a rude staff member. Food was excellent as usual, and the price has risen fast to match its quality and quantity. I’d rather that than a drop in quality that happened in so many other places. Rather than go into details of an unpleasant exchange with one staff member, I’ll just add that her behaviour in dealing with our reservation was a major put off. We were about to abandon our reservation but got seated just by chance, and then thoroughly enjoyed a high quality feed.
