I spoke with Tony who was rude, unhelpful, unfriendly and pushy. I saw online that the location had an iphone 13 pink 128GB in store so asked to buy it and he very rudely and smugly advised that they hadn’t had any stock for a while and made a big point of showing me his empty stock drawer. At any other JB the staff have jumped at the chance of helping find other nearby stores that have stock and either getting it put on hold so I can buy it there, or getting it delivered to the current store. He did no such thing and I had to prompt him to check other stores stock which he very reluctantly did so. He advised that they would be likely getting stock in later today or tomorrow and when I told him that I work across the road and will be in both today and tomorrow so asked him if he could let me know when the stock arrives so I can come in and buy it he told me he couldn’t do that for me. I have done this at many other JB stores. He very reluctantly took my number and left me to call other JB stores myself to check the stock. The staff I spoke to were much kinder and way more helpful and were able to offer to put a phone aside for me and were able to advise of the stock at other locations. Tony was also very pushy in trying to get me to switch phone plans and he would not take no for an answer, when the phone came in later and I purchased it he was still trying to get me to switch phone plans which I am sure he makes commission on. He was also very pushy in trying to get me to buy phone accessories which I already have and don’t need. I prefer shopping at the westfield JB Hifi who also agree that customer feedback about the Strand Arcade store confirms that their customer service is lacking. Upon finding a vinyl I liked, I checked online to see if another Australian retailer had it at a better price (knowing JB Hi-Fi does price matching) and found an Amazon Australia listing of the exact item for about $15 less. I took the item to the front counter and politely asked if it would be possible to price match the vinyl, to which the lady serving me stated “we don’t typically price match vinyls”. This was not something I was familiar with as I had price matched other vinyls at JB with no trouble at all.
Anyways, I proceeded to show her the Amazon Australia listing which she examined and said flat out that it was not the same vinyl and that it would not be possible to price match. She took no time to check if the item number (which would state otherwise) was the same as the Amazon Australia listing. Her excuse was that the item at JB Hi-Fi was some kind of limited edition, which was also false as JB only sells one variant of this vinyl which isn’t a limited pressing of any kind. During this entire interaction her tone came off as quite arrogant and rude.
I went to JB Hi-Fi Castle Towers a couple of hours later and they were able to price match the item with ease. There was no weirdness about not being able to price match vinyls and the staff were friendly.
