Very disappointing experience marked by getting barked at and told to sit because orders ‘are taken at the table’. I said I was looking at the options, not trying to order but was again ordered to sit even though I couldn’t see the options from the table. Totally surreal and then our coffee ordered was taken but because it wasn’t written ie: 3 cappuccinos - 1 with 3 sugars and two without and a bacon roll. Another server brought out 1 coffee with 1 sugar and when we said ‘not us’, she was clearly annoyed until my husband took it and added the other two sugars. Altogether rubbish treatment at a clearly non busy time. We would have left but a neighbouring hotel issues breakfast vouchers to here so we had effectively already paid. I visited a year ago and the staff were rude. Attempted to visit the store today again to give them a second chance, they failed catastrophically. My partner has a medical exemption for a face mask so was not wearing one. One of the staff demanded she not only provide the exemption, but also to read it in detail. A gross over reach of legal rights and medical discrimination. When she politely refused another staff member yelled rudely across the busy cafe telling her to leave. The world is difficult right now and we should be to treating each other with care and compassionate, not hostility and aggression. Cake in coffee shops is often a journey that begins far away. You either get a shmick looking disc, with all the charm of mannequin, and a formulaic flavour profile. Alternately, Bob and Pete have delivered a pasteurised Slav, along with their offensive croissants. Neither so here. The cake is as home made as that person you see at the beach, that sticks out because they've let themselves be. The recipes here are great. The orange cake is a take on classic persian styles, but still very local. The others look the goods too. And thankfully the coffee and teas measure up to match.
