Glass island review We Had our wedding on this boat. Nothing went according to plan. The service was very disappointing. We had the ceremony on the top deck and we had requested for the top deck to be very well lit up with projector lighting, weeks leading up to our wedding date I made it very clear that I wanted the top deck to be completely lit up so that it's not dark. we got married at 8 pm in winter and were aware the sun was setting at 5pm. So we did not want a dark ceremony. On the night of our wedding as I was walking down the Isle it was pitch black I couldn't see any of my guests on either side of the Isle. All I could see was my husband to be at the end of the alter which lit up with the lighting of the camera crew. It was just terrible. It was nothing I had imagined. At the same time the boat was rocking so bad that I almost fell over several times as I was walking down the Isle. It was an absolute nightmare. I was holding on to my dad so tightly in hopes I don't fall over. We were promised so many times by the event manager/coordinator and the owner of the boat that the boat will be travelling very slow and that we would hardly feel any movement. This was a lie. There was so much movement and rocking throughout the entire night. So many of my guests got motion sickness and were vomiting. It was so horrible. The event coordinator on the night was so rude and abrubt towards all of us she was not helpful at all. I have been part of many bridal parties in the past and I knew what was standard service and what to expect from the staff who were managing the event. My husband and all our guests were complaining of how hot it was inside the boat and regardless of how many times i had requested the manager to do something about the heat, she didn't do anything. I asked if we could open some of the doors to the outside balconies to let some air in but unfortunately this was not done. So we just had to put up with the heat. The manager was no where in sight when we needed her. It was really frustrating. I have been in the wedding industryfor 15 yrs but never had I come across a bunch of rude unproffessional people. we were promised the world but it was a huge let down. I strongly do not recommend this boat to any couple wishing to get married on a boat. This was just a small handful of things that we endured on our wedding night there was much more that happened but quite frankly I don't want to remember and rather...

When we went in, we were told that we could occupy any table which is not reserved since we did not book a table in advance, which, to be honest, is a silly idea. Since everyone booked tickets and usually in groups, it would be more reasonable if the tables are somehow assigned. Regardless, we found a table, settled, and placed our order when a waitress comes to inform us that that table is already booked. We had been there for more than 20 min and the boat has still not left. Naturally, we refused to move since there were no other places left. She brought in the manager who repeated the same thing, and we still refused because it was too late. Luckily, we turned out to know another group and they somehow sorted it out without us needing to move. The ambience was nice, the food and the dj were ok, but towards the end, the music just got too loud that it was just grumbling noise. We were tired by then, so i put my feet up on an unoccupied seat. That seat was being used by our group, so it’s not like I was taking someone else’s seat. Regardless, the manager, a black-clad ball of anger, comes and asks me to put my legs down. I comply, as it may have been a place policy that I didn’t know about. Five minutes later, another guy at the table facing ours puts his feet up on the table. The manager comes with a mop, cleans under him, and tells him nothing. My whole group saw that and were annoyed by that behaviour. In the end, yes we did have fun, but we still felt somehow disrespected. The Glass Island may be running a great operation, but the staff seem to...
Read moreNew Year’s Eve fireworks on Sydney Harbour is acknowledged by locals and tourists alike as being the ultimate send off to the old year. However, with so many people wanting a spot, so many bad reports in the media of poor behaviour and catering, and so many worries about Sydney’s summer weather, choosing the right venue or cruise has never been harder.
Sydney Glass Island is the option we chose after much research, especially as it has glassed in and open rooftop viewing areas. During the year this boat is used for weddings and corporate functions but fortunately they do NYE too. We booked early in 2015 for early bird prices which brought it down to $450pp. Not cheap, but all in our group thought it was great value.
You are on the boat for 5-6 hours. It was not overcrowded, staff were welcoming, and food and drink (beer, spirits, bubbles and wine) kept coming all night. Here is a sample of the menu:
Chorizo and Fresh Prawn Bites on Bamboo Stick Fresh Rock Oysters w/ Lime Wedges Peking Duck Pancakes w/ Hoi Sin & Shallots Pumpkin Risotto Balls with Buffalo Mozzarella Thai fish cake Salad w/cucumber relish served in a box Variety of Japanese Nori Rolls Served w/ Wasabi & Soy Veal & Pork Balls w/ Spicy Salsa Lamb Cutlets with Chermoula Marinated Skewered King Prawns Tandoori Chicken Skewers with Mint Riata and a selection of mini ice cream cones
There was no queuing for anything....even toilets!
But the coup de grace has to be the view of the fireworks....you have the Harbour Bridge right in front of you with nothing hindering the spectacle.
We had 12 in our group and there were no grizzles.
Highly recommended....
