This is a complete rip-off! Decided to come here for our anniversary dinner after seeing the Mediterranean tapas buffet table included when you opt for the Choice Menu ($95pp). I saw heaps of photos and reviews that there’s good tapas options before I ended up choosing Sailmaker as it seemed like a fun experience.
On a Saturday night there were literally only 3 options: a sad bowl of cauliflower, a sad bowl of cold squash, and shrimp salad. And olives if you count that…there were 4 giant EMPTY boards with decorative seashells sitting on it which I am CERTAIN is usually filled with tapa options. Where was the arancini, potato gratin, cured meats, crackers etc that I had seen in everyone else’s photos??? I confronted someone about it and they just told me “it changes daily”. But ok, I didn’t expect the NUMBER of options to change too? And cauliflower and squash are not even comparable to cured meats, arancini balls and potato gratin, it seems very low effort and low budget.
What’s worse is that I originally actually booked this exact place and time via First Table to dine for half price! But I cancelled it after seeing the Tapas table buffet was not included in First Table — but after seeing how sad and little options there were at the Tapas buffet table I honestly regretted it because I would’ve been better off just not having the tapas table and paying only half price.
The portions of the entrees were so much smaller than what I saw, my octopus was half the size of what I saw in a photo. My Swordfish main was overcooked and dry, without the sauce it was hard to swallow.
The dessert trolley was average too, nothing amazing. The only highlight was probably the sourdough and the butter.
Overall what a waste of a celebration dinner here because it was disappointment one after the other. Not worth $95 pp especially if they are so inconsistent with their tapas buffet options on a blimmin SATURDAY evening! They fully stinged out. I would not come back even for that First Table half...

Read moreOne of the newest buffet restaurants in Sydney. Located in the Hyatt Regency hotel, previously four point Sheraton hotel. What to expect from sailmaker and is it worth it? I bought a deal from Groupon for four person for $175 ($43.75 pp), normally $316 ($79 pp). You get 2 hours of unlimited buffet and champagne, tea or coffee is not included unfortunately for people falling asleep after a few glasses of bubbly. There is quite a decent seafood section including nice crab, large prawns, mussels, smoked salmon, octopus and loads of oysters. No joke but literally I ate almost 3 dozens of oysters to get my moneys worth back. Hot food section is a bit disappointing with only a few choices. Desserts there’s plenty but none of them taste nice, most are like mousse cakes but with different flavours. The only dessert I enjoyed was the coconut sago the rest was not enjoyable. The restaurant has two dining rooms, 1. The main room where all the food is and 2. a private exclusive area for Groupon diners. I generally thought if you had a large group or with kids and prams you get placed in that room but that was not the case, Groupon exclusive! Even though its away from the food area it’s quite a nice function room with large round tables and maximum 4-5 tables with a brightly lit room, aircon and with views of darling harbour bonus! Where was the main dining area is was warm and crowded. I also did not like how they positioned the food tables, kind of too far apart from each other. If you have been to mosaic at western or Sheraton on the park they have a much simpler layout all in the same area. Conclusion: with Groupon it’s worth going especially the seafood bar and unlimited champagne. No discount, for similar price or cheaper western hotel and Sheraton on the park...
