⭐☆☆☆☆ A Complete Disaster – Ruined My 40th Birthday
I don’t normally leave reviews like this, but my experience at Goros for my 40th birthday was so appalling that I feel compelled to share it.
I had booked a karaoke room (after being waitlisted for a specific time) and received confirmation via email when the slot became available — I booked it immediately. When we arrived, we were told the booking was only for a table, not a room. Confused and frustrated, I had to explain the whole situation multiple times before we were finally told we could have a room after all.
We got in, got settled, started singing — and just when we thought the night might turn around, not one, but two separate managers barged in to say we had to leave because “the other party had arrived late.” Seriously? So we were kicked out of the room we booked because another group turned up late? And worse still, I had to explain the whole situation again — to different managers who clearly had zero communication between them.
To top it all off, the female manager on duty was downright rude, unprofessional and dismissive. She could barely look me in the eye, and when she did, she pulled faces so exaggerated and juvenile that I actually had to call her out on her behaviour. It was like something out of a bad high school drama production — completely inappropriate for someone in a managerial position. I honestly started to wonder if she was trying to escalate it into something physical. It was bizarre and deeply unsettling.
When I raised the issue, we were offered a token “round of drinks” and told “yeah we’ve been having problems with the booking system.” I was then interrogated about when I cancelled my original booking — yes, I did, because I was waitlisted for the correct time, and your system emailed me when it became available. I booked immediately. This was all generated by your system, and the timestamps confirm that.
The whole experience was an absolute nightmare. What should have been a fun and joyful celebration ended in stress, disappointment, and embarrassment. No one took real responsibility, the communication was chaotic, and the attitude from staff — especially management — was shockingly poor.
There are too many great venues in Sydney to waste your time or special moments here. Goros might seem like fun on the surface, but if something goes wrong (which it clearly can), don’t expect anyone to handle it with professionalism, empathy or...
Read moreHad a great time here. The dance floor was jam packed and moving, dj was great busting out a mix of 90's Rnb all the way through to the modern stuff, they had a pool table which was good, the air hockey was broken, but there were other arcade machines that you could still play, while waiting for the crew to get the next round.
I would have given more stars, except for the fact that one of their security guards was either a pervert or just a creep.
I had eaten my fair share of sushi, a chicken burger with the best tasting mayonnaise, which I had ordered from the bar and on top of that I had consumed 3 beers which were delicious.
It was that time. Humans doing very human like things. Using the mens restroom, I was in the cubicle doing my thing. Half way through my "humans doing very human things", I noticed a man peering through the slight gap in the door.
I thought maybe he was checking to see if there was anyone in there. Well he wouldn't have to guess anymore. Because after his eye and my eyes made "eye" contact I thought he'd be done with it.
Me already being uncomfortable as any human would be having to use the throne room that was not in their own home, sat there thinking "what the he'll!"
Well I went back to my business and shortly after that I look up to see the same man standing there with his eye peering through the slight gap once again. This time I shouted out loud "man, are you alright?! His eye quickly disappeared from the slight gap in the door. I did my thing and went out to wash my hands.
I had to shuffle past this security guard who was positioned up against the urinal. As I was lathering my hands with soap and water I noticed the security guard was not actually using the urinal. But was using the urinal as a means of stealth, trying to blend in with his surroundings.
One man walked in and shuffled past the security guard who was up against the urinal. He walked into the cubicle. By this time I was just about done with washing my hands.
I walking out the restroom and had held the door open for another gentleman only to see the security guard doing the same creepy thing. Staring through the slight gap in the door, while an innocent man sat uncomfortably in the surroundings of a foreign throne room, only trying to complete the task of "humans doing very human like things".
Beware of this staff member. When we left he was manning the front entrance with another...
Read moreWhere do I even begin? I made a booking for 12 people weeks in advance only to arrive and find a table set up with just 8 seats. I had to speak with two different staff members and their solution was to add another table that was a completely different height and shape, hardly ideal for a group celebration.
When I made the booking I clearly stated it was for a birthday. I’m not sure why they even ask that question, as there was absolutely nothing special done to acknowledge the occasion. On top of that they placed us on the dance floor, and not even an hour into our booking we were told all the tables in that area were being removed. This happened while my friends were still eating. I had to once again raise concerns with another staff member, who eventually relocated us but we ended up being split between two separate tables.
As if that wasn’t enough, when I finally thought I’d be able to relax and enjoy my night, I asked for the birthday cake I had brought with me only to discover it had been given to someone else. The staff didn’t check, confirm a name or ask for a table number they just handed my cake to someone who was leaving the bar! I had to speak to another three or four more staff members before getting any answers. While the manager did offer immediate compensation for the lost cake, the entire experience was far more stressful than it should have been.
It’s a real shame because the venue is beautiful, the food was great, and the drinks were reasonably priced. But the lack of organization and poor communication among staff completely ruined what should have been a special evening. I spent more than half my birthday dealing with unnecessary issues instead of enjoying time...
