The brewery is a great concept with 5/5 service that is ruined by the stench of corporate hotelier of Rydges. Within all the Surry Hills spots this pub best emulates Surry Hills, with a great atmosphere and fantastic service this place is honest that makes you feel special like no other. Despite my rating it deserves a visit.
However, the Rydges element of the pub/brewery absolutely ruins the entire experience. There is an upstairs mezzanine that absolutely reeks of cheap buffet breakfast, Woolworths milk aisle lighting and enough instant coffee cans to last a doomsday prepper for 2 years.
The food is well presented and not bad but god does it remind me of a 3-4 star hotel. There is a taste with my scotch fillet that had that reminder that this is a hotel that caters for everyone so it had that slightly soft chewy action to aid digestion with those with ‘softer teeth’. It’s hard to explain but regular 4star hotel patrons would instantly recognise this taste.
For the good of Surry Hills Brewery from which incidentally I live less than 100 metres from and to genuinely compete with Harpoon Harry’s, this place is in desperate need of independence and a good marketing team so I know they have $10 cocktails form 7-9!
Good luck team, fantastic service, great beers, please find your own soul. You seem to have a great...
Read moreThe beer was good … but that’s really the only positive comment I can say about our visit tonight. It’s great to have live music but was too loud ,when you can’t order at the bar. Food was very slow in coming and honestly it must have been sitting under the warmers for a very long time as it was dried out. Ordered the burrata and Nduja Pizza. The pizza was so dried out it was like eating cardboard. The burrata was the only nice thing as it was not cooked. Then waited another 40 mins for mains and had to ask where they were. Ribs - burnt and rice again dried out from sitting under heat lamps. My wife’s burger - bun burnt, beef patty- charcoal, chips- soggy , Luke warm and tasted of fish - obviously not using clean oil and cooking in same oil as the battered fish dish. Our side of Broccolini never turned up I’d maybe go back for a drink but never to eat again and to think it’s coming out of the kitchen of Rydges , very...
Read moreSo, I recently decided to have a meal at The Sydney Brewery, and well, it didn’t go as planned. I was there with a discount booking, and this one bartender, the one with the cap on backwards, oddly asks me to stand outside. I approached him again, and this time, he points us to a reserved table. And there we were, just waiting for like 10 minutes. Finally, I decided to talk to another lady at the cashier, and she was really friendly, took my orders and all was good. But, the same guy comes back, drops our entrees, no words, and forgot to give us any cutlery. Seriously, what’s up with him? I eat out occasionally, and let me tell you, I’ve never met anyone so unfriendly and ignorant. I know it was a busy night, but taking orders isn’t rocket science! The other waitresses there were super nice and attentive, but this guy, he really needs to brush up on his customer...
