Hi Owner & Manager of Home Thai,

Today we had a bad experience at your restaurant.

My work colleague flew in from Melbourne and we decided to hold our first lunch gathering at your restaurant based on your lovely reviews.

My work colleague ordered 1 x Crispy Pork with Rice dish. The waitress incorrectly took my colleagues order because she couldn't understand English properly. Instead of charging for one dish, the waitress order her two dishes 1 x Crispy Pork with Rice and 1 x Fried Vegetables so in total she paid $47 for the two dishes for lunch.

The interesting part of the review is when we realised the error and asked the waitress to refund 1 x Fried Vegetables because of the order error and it wasn't made yet. The waitress says she cannot refund the order because this is your business policy. There's no refund policy and she can takeaway the 1 x Fried vegetables she didn't order.

Then we said if you don't have authority. Can we speak to the manager? The waitress replied and said that there's no manager in the restaurant and we asked for your phone number. She goes there's no phone number for the manager but we can give you email. We ask her who's running the restaurant when there's no manager. She replies only the owner can refund the order. There's too much trouble processing a refund and the paperwork involved. We advised that's your business concern not the customer as we just wanted to enjoy our lunch together.

My question is how can you run a business and charge a customer for something they didn't order and expect them to take away the food and pay for a mistake made by your employee then tell the customer we cannot refund you.

We won't be coming back to your restaurant. I can only warn other customers that your restaurant is not a good place to dine.

For those who are reading, please don't support this business. They don't have any regards for customers but taking money even for food you didn't order. For any errors made by the employees, it ends up being the customers fault. Therefore you get 1 out of 5...

I’ve been a loyal customer of Home Thai since it first opened, introduced by my then-boyfriend (now husband) around 2011. It used to be one of our favourite places to dine—the food was vibrant, fresh, and clearly made with care. Unfortunately, our recent visit didn’t live up to the warm, flavourful memories we associate with the restaurant.

We ordered several dishes, and sadly, many missed the mark in both flavour and presentation: • Pineapple Fried Rice: This dish was particularly disappointing. It lacked the tangy brightness that pineapple usually brings and instead tasted more like a curry-flavoured rice. The texture felt off, and the colour was a dull matte yellow—visually unappealing and not what we expected based on past experiences. • Chicken Cashew Basil: This was quite basic and didn’t have any standout elements. It felt like it was missing depth or that signature punch of flavour we’ve come to expect. • Pad Thai: This was the highlight of the night. Well-executed and balanced, though Pad Thai is typically a safer bet and harder to get wrong. • Minced Beef Chili Basil & Sweet and Sour Fish: Both were overwhelmingly spicy. The fish dish, in particular, lacked balance—the sweetness and sourness were completely overpowered by chili. Thai cuisine is known for its harmony of flavours, and unfortunately, these dishes felt one-note. • Other Dishes: We ordered two additional dishes (can’t recall the names), and again, they were overwhelmingly spicy without much variation. Spice can be a wonderful component, but it should complement, not dominate.

In addition to the food, the service left much to be desired. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before we were offered water, and oddly, one of our dishes arrived before we had plates or cutlery. I had to ask a staff member for those, but she seemed disengaged—laughing and chatting with kitchen staff rather than attending...

I went there before and I first of all, it have a hair in mu food. I asked straight away to change it. And they bring back, it was all wrong. I ate it anyway, it was very good. But I took off everything that I didn’t wanted that I order before. Anyway, I come back today and I didn’t have to my time, so I asked to be in TAKE AWAY. But I asked to see the menu first. I told that girl that I went that before and I dined in and the menu it was different of that one that she gave to me. She was VERY rude at the whole time and lots of attitude. I order one thing because I couldn’t find what I wanted it. After I order, she provide me another menu and then I said “so, I actually I want this one instead.” She didn’t sat anything, give the change for the first order that was wrong and COMPLETELY left to do something else and left me there. I asked one of the other girls “is she coming back? She just left, gave me the wrong change and didn’t say anything.” She didn’t come back. She was in the drinks session, I went there and asked her “Are u going to come back?” She ignore me at first and then after a few minutes she came back and then I said “I want my money back. I don’t want to eat anymore.” She DENY my request 5 times saying “I can’t cancel your order because it is already in the kitchen.” I told her “yes u can. Its my right. You were very disrespectful, and I don’t want eat anymore. I want my money back.” Finally after I said 5 TIMES, she finally give my money back. I cant remember her name but she have long hair and kind of red. EXTREMELY RUDE. Horrible...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Home Thai in Sussex street and it was truly a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant exuded a distinct Thai charm, with beautifully adorned decorations that transported me straight to the streets of Bangkok. Now, let's talk about the food—the real star of the show. The pad Thai at is hands down some of the best I have ever had. The stir-fried noodles were perfectly cooked, possessing just the right amount of chewiness. Equally impressive was the tom yum soup. The aroma alone was enough to awaken my senses. This traditional Thai soup packed a punch with its bold and spicy flavors, yet remained wonderfully balanced. The generous portions of succulent shrimp and fragrant mushrooms further elevated this dish to new heights. Beyond the delectable cuisine, the attentive and friendly staff at Home Thai added to the overall dining experience. Their genuine passion for Thai cuisine was evident in their recommendations and personalized service, ensuring that each customer felt valued and well taken care of. This restaurant is a true gem that offers a taste of Thailand right in the heart of Sydney CBD. The mouthwatering pad Thai and the aromatic tom yum soup are both exquisitely prepared, capturing the essence of authentic Thai cuisine. Coupled with the inviting ambiance and the warm hospitality of the staff, dining at [Thai Restaurant] is an experience you simply cannot miss. I look forward to returning soon for another memorable meal.

We ordered the chicken green curry, thai salad and the glutinous rice to go with. Apart from the glutinous rice which my dinner date felt a tad undercooked, the other two dishes were spot-on on taste & came in decent sized servings. The cook certainly didn't skimp on quantity or quality. Definitely 4.5-stars for food. What marred my experience was the lackadaisical attitude of the servers. Firstly, the service. Our green curry was served almost immediately. Then we sat around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the rice. Twiddle, twiddle, twiddle, yet no rice. Several servers walked past and looked at us yet none came up to ask if anything was amiss. Finally, after fretting for a good amount of time we called a server over to check and she promptly came back with our rice. Secondly, the floor near my table was wet with water because diner at the table next to us had spilled his water. Multiple servers walked past and glanced at the wet floor, yet none took the initiative to bring out a mop to clean the spill. Cleanliness aside, a wet floor could easily cause a child or elderly person to slip and fall. Isn't it the responsibility of the restaurant to ensure patron safety? Therefore 1 star for service.

Decent, average-to-good & quick service, expect to be rushed during peak times My family and I have eaten at this restaurant quite a few times over the years for dinner. It has been and still is quite a hot spot, with queues almost every time I've dined there or when I'm walking past (you write your name on the list and wait for your number to be called). There also seems to be lots of take away orders, with many people standing outside waiting to collect their food. The restaurant is two (and a half - there is a small mid level with a few tables on it) levels with large glass windows at the front. The kitchen is visible from outside, when you walk in and from the second level - so you can see everything they do! A nice casual setting suitable for family lunchs/dinners, catching up with friends (though noise levels are high since tables are close together, and walls rebound a lot of sound, so conversing can be difficult if you're not borderline shouting, so not recommended for romantic dinners or if you prefer quiet environments). Lights are moderately dimmed.
