Do yourself a favor, just avoid. Reading non-5 star reviews, one would notice how defensive and unprofessional these are being handled. Yet, we came in at 1.20pm on Saturday and the restaurant was pretty much empty. Ignoring all the signs, we decided to taste 4 mains - Lankan spicy level.

Very poorly handled proteins. Picture promises on Uber have nothing to do with the actual dishes, neither ingredient- nor color-wise. Portion size leaves it sour for the wallet, very average flavors don’t compensate for a lack of value. Inflated rating 100%.

4 mains are:

Devilled Beef: the one to avoid at any cost. There is nothing wrong with cheap cuts if they handled appropriately. But if one chews a cube of beef for over 5 minutes, that’s on chef. And there is nothing else in this dish to distract yourself with.

Lankan Chicken Fried Rice with Fried chicken: spiced rice, no to little carrot as a vege with extremely dry drumstick on top. No fresh garnish, no lemon as promised.

Chicken Kothu with fried chicken: the same very dry drumstick situation fairly generously chopped through Kothu with a whole dry drumstick on top. No fresh garnish, no lemon as promised. Taste-wise the best out of all of them (disregarding the chicken completely), although l wouldn’t return for it.

Lankan Lamb Curry (Large): large was probably missed in my order, perhaps with the right masala as it had arrived thinly spread with no bright colors as promised. Lamb was slowly cooked so could nicely pull apart. Taste of curry was average.

Neither of us said yes to...

Outstanding Catering Experience with Kandy Bites by Chef Ceylon!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Kandy Bites by Chef Ceylon for our celebration party, and they truly delivered an exceptional experience! From the moment we reached out, Nilani handled everything with professionalism, courtesy, and great communication, making the entire process seamless.

The food was absolutely delicious, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about it! The buffet was beautifully set up, and the variety of dishes catered to everyone’s tastes. A special highlight was the live cooking station for Sri Lankan hoppers, which was a massive hit! Watching them freshly made added a wonderful touch to the event, and they tasted amazing.

The catering team arrived on time, worked efficiently, and ensured everything was perfect. Their attention to detail and friendly service made all the difference, allowing us to enjoy the event without any worries.

If you're looking for top-quality Sri Lankan catering with incredible flavours and exceptional service, Kandy Bites by Chef Ceylon is the way to go. A huge thank you to Nilani and the team for making our celebration so special!

Would you like me to tweak...

We went for dinner for 2 to this place. We had following dishes:

Sri Lankan Jerk Chicken Wings (4.5/5) Excellent chicken wings - well cooked and very juicy. Had a tinge of pepper and honey on top and added to the taste significantly. A must try starter.

Egg Hopper (4.4/5) Three hoppers were served, one with egg and two plain. Three sides accompanied them , a chicken curry, some dry chutney and onions. This dish was very tasty as well , especially the egg hopper which stood out. Chicken curry was pretty good. The whole package eaten together with all the sides was quite satisfying.

Sri Lankan Prawn Curry with Rice (4.5/5) Very well made. Well cooked and in an authentic Lankan style. Lot of prawn pieces as well.

Whole Fish with rice (4/5) Serves one whole fish cooked in an Indo-Chinese style accompanied with Mushrooms, pepper and Onions. Fish was well cooked and did not have too many fish thorn/bones. The flavour is on the tangy side - can be tried - but it is a mains dish and should be sufficient in itself. I was not a huge fan of this one due to its Indo Chinese flavour but can be tried if that’s something that interests you.

All in all a good authentic Sri Lankan place in the city....

A True Taste of Kandy in the Heart of Glebe! Dining at "Kandy Bites by Chef Ceylon" was like taking a flavorful journey straight back to my hometown of Kandy, Sri Lanka. The food is nothing short of authentic, rich in tradition, full of bold spices, and beautifully presented. Every bite reminded me of home, and it’s rare to find that level of soul in a dish. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. They took the time to explain each dish, making the experience feel personal and thoughtful. The cocktails were a standout, creative, well-balanced, and infused with local Sri Lankan flavors. Sipping one while enjoying the chilled vibes and great music made for the perfect night out. The space is clean, inviting, and sets the mood just right. Whether you're after a full meal or just want to enjoy some top-notch drinks with a Sri Lankan twist, this spot delivers. Tasting traditional beverages right in Glebe was such a unique and exciting experience. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Sri Lankan food and a warm, memorable dining experience. Chef Ceylon has truly brought a slice of Kandy to Sydney.

After seeing their posts on social media and driving past the restaurant itself many times I finally visited this place on 9/9/2022. The premises itself was beautiful and clean. It definitely was oozing with a Sri Lankan vibe complete with appropriate music as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ordering was done at the table by scanning a QR code. The menu choices were extensive and included some old favourites as well as some unusual variations of the old favourites, the lobster kothu being one of them. We chose the Serendip Village Sawan for 2 with whole fish and the Lamb kothu with grilled lamb chops. The Sawan had dhal, egg plant, beans, pumpkin, beet root, mango curry, fried boiled eggs, 2 fried whole fish, 2 pieces of crispy chicken and salad. My son had a Faluda as well. The portions were very generous and the these choices were definitely enough for the 3 of us. The prices were very reasonable. They also have a well stocked bar. The best parking is at the Broadway Shopping Centre which is just a 3-5 min walk away. I will definitely go back.
