I came down from my hotel room to look for coffee at 7:55am (Sunday), saw this little cafe and decided to give it a try. Two people were inside working and completely ignored me standing there. I realised after being ignored for a good half minute that they mustnāt be open yet, but I couldnāt see an opening hours sign or a āclosedā sign from where I was standing in front of the eftpos machine where you would order. I checked online later and saw they open at 8am on Sundays (which is still a bit late for a cafe), so sure I was a few mins too early. But I would have felt less stupid if someone communicated with me or if there was an opening hours sign.
My friends told me later they had been there twice for an iced latte. Itās a small cafe with no seating so it looks like takeaway only. But strangely both times they gave a glass instead of a takeaway cup. So they were expected to stand there and drink it? Very odd.
I went down to Georgie Boys further inside World Square. They were open since 7am, barista smiled, made eye contact with me and said hello as soon as they saw me standing there, and there is opening hours signage. Perfect. Thatās how...

And that's where my major problem lies - they only do a regular sized coffee and it's expensive. My coffee of choice is between $3,50 and $4,00 elsewhere for a LARGE of comparable (sometimes better) quality. Kingswood charged $4 for a regular size.
I asked why they do no large size and they said it was to ensure consistent quality. Sure, that's fair enough if your coffee is spectacular but when it's no better than your competitors you need another point of difference.
It's a pity because I like the shop, but why would I pay more for the same thing? Probably won't visit again for a while but will try them out again in a few months to see if anything...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreKingswood is a small specialty coffee located in World Square (George St side) with a wooden facade and a huge visible la marzocco coffee machine. Plenty of customers hanging around enjoying their daily coffee (or like me, two). Kingswood roast their own coffee and serve the house blend for milk coffees, as well as a range of single origins for espresso and filter. The coffee is excellent and despite me not living in the city, I'll definately make a return visit. For the non coffee drinkers out there, Kingswood also do a signature chai, hot chocolate, tea and iced drinks. Since it is only small, the food menu is only small but they have some pastries and toasties for...
