A relatively new restaurant in Burwood with a pretty eye catching open kitchen at the front with some sort of unique noodle making device. One of the multiple options for beef noodle soup in Burwood and not a bad one at that.
Menu is fairly concise but they specialize in spicy beef noodle soup and braised pork hock. Service is fairly fast and the restaurant itself is nice enough.
Spicy beef noodle soup Broth: SS, 9/10. Not overpoweringly spicy and more on the "mala" / numbing side. Yum Beef: S, 8/10. Good but not outstanding Noodles: S+, 8.5/10. Rice noodles don't have the texture of wheat based but a bit jelly like. Value: S, 8/10. $16
Pork hock rice Pork: S, 8/10. Not bad but could be more flavourful Texture: S+, 8.5/10. Tender and chewy but, if there was more meat, that would have been even better Value: S, 8/10. $16
Spicy shredded beef Flavour: S+, 8.5/10. Mala flavour bomb. Pretty strong stuff. Texture: S+, 8.5/10. Nice to munch on. Not too stringy Value: B, 6/10. $17 is...
Read moreTo be honest, the signature beef noodle soup 跷脚牛肉米线 (it's in the restaurant name) was a bit underwhelming - the broth tastes like Lanzhou lamian minus the chilli oil to me, i.e. quite a plain, slightly salty beef broth. It comes with rice noodles, beef slices, beef tripe, coriander and green onions. What stole the show was the Taikoo Li mince beef noodles 小馆燃面! They come laden with lots of toppings (beef mince, toasted peanut crumbs, some kind of preserved vegetable, chilli flakes and coriander) - mix it up and it is a delicious flavour bomb with a nice variety of textures too - spicy but not overly so. The fuqifeipian 夫妻肺片 (sliced beef and ox tongue in chilli sauce) looks very red and intimidating but isn't that spicy! Quite flavourful as well - spicy, mala, sweet, salty, vinegary - signature Sichuan flavours. Their aircon was not on/working when we went and it was extremely hot and stuffy inside so not the best environment for chowing down on spicy food - hope they...
Read moreThis was honestly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.
I ordered a specific dish, but they brought me something completely different. When I politely pointed it out and asked for a refund or a replacement, they refused. Instead of taking responsibility, they insisted it was my own mistake — which it absolutely wasn’t.
Their “solution”? They asked me to review the receipt as if I had imagined the whole thing. No apology. No willingness to fix the issue. Just gaslighting the customer and denying any fault.
I’ve never experienced such unprofessional service and disrespectful attitude. Mistakes can happen — but blaming the customer and refusing to resolve it is unacceptable.
Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. There are plenty of restaurants that know how to treat people with...
