If you're looking for a restaurant that serves Malaysian street food, then Mamak Haymarket is for you. Whilst this restaurant can appear very busy and there are long lines out the front door, do not be perturbed. Just line up, relax and admire the roti maker who is making fresh roti in the window in front of you. Patron turnover is fast and staff are often looking at the line to see when they can seat the patiently waiting customers. Depending on the size of the dining party, customers further down the queue could be seated in front of customers at the start. Staff are helpful to those that require assistance such as those with prams and hound children. On the menu there is the usual street fare. Nasi lemak, Mee goreng, nasi goreng, satay, curry chicken, and a variety of roti dishes - roti Chennai, roti telur (filled with egg), roti bawang (filled with onion), murtabak (roti filled with minced meat, onions and spices) and more. Like something sweet and you have Aiw kachung, chendol, and sweet roti - roti pisang (filled with banana), roti bom (with condensed milk) and more. Looking for a beverage and the Hot and cold varieties of Kopi (coffee) and Teh (tea) are available including my favourite Teh Tarek (foamy tea that has been pulled by pouring the tea from one cup to another) in both hot and cold versions. This is a good restaurant just around the corner from Sydney's Chinatown.

📍 Mamak, Haymarket – Sydney Located right on the main road in Haymarket, Mamak is easy to find and just a short walk from public transport. ⏳ Be Prepared to Wait: The lines can get long, especially on Friday nights and weekends, so expect a wait. It can get windy outside, so bring a warm jacket – but once you’re inside, it’s toasty and welcoming. 😊 Customer Service: The staff were warm, friendly, and made me feel completely at ease. The seating area is quite tight, so if you’re not a fan of close quarters, it might not be for you. I was initially seated at a small two-seater in the back, but when I asked to move to a bigger table, they happily accommodated my request. 🍽 Menu & Dining Experience: The drinks menu is simple and easy to navigate, while the food menu comes with photos, making ordering a breeze. Both dine-in and takeaway are available, but I recommend dining in – part of the fun is watching the chefs in action as they prepare your meal. ✨ Vibe & Food: I loved the lively atmosphere, warm ambience, and the overall vibe. The food was bursting with flavour – absolutely delicious! ⭐ Overall Experience: 10/10 A must-visit in Haymarket for authentic Malaysian flavours, friendly service, and a great dining experience. #Sydney #Australia #MalaysianFood #Mamak #BBQ #StreetFood #AsianEats #HalalFood #SpicyEats #SydneyEats #FamilyDining

This place is so good two of us have rationed out our visitations to bimonthly. First the star is the roti kaya - ts is crispy fluffy piping hot and SO GOOD paired with the curry (probably don’t get it with the ice cream otherwise it’ll be too sweet) - the sweetness balances out the tartness from the curry dips and sambal The roti planta is also very good but pales in comparison to the roti kaya The chicken satay is SO GOOD ! Beef satay not so much - it was a tad bit chewy and the flavours didn’t work so well with the peanut sauce - bonus the raw onions included pair so well with the heavy peanut sauce and smokiness of the satay Nasi goreng was also good - but average compared to everything else - very good buffet dish Roti pisang with icecream was just ok - i think the texture of the roti was comprised by the soft bananas and icecream Us two people eat an insensible quantity of food each time we come (we get the nasi goreng, 12 chicken satay, and 3-4 roti each time we come) - which is about 50$pp BUT if you eat like a normal person it should be 30-35pp max

It is no doubt the foods here are always amazing, the peanut sauce of the satay is to die for. Any roti with that curry and lentil on the side is a must try when you visit mamak. They make it fresh from the scratch it was fluffy and the curry is absolutely delicious. Don't forget to get a drink too, teh tarik is a must try drink if you go to malaysia restaurant. The downsides are, the place is really small, the space is really cramped together you can sit side by side to a bunch of stranger. The staff is really rude and don't really care about customer, dont expect great service here. I kinda understand this place is really busy, people are line up to dine in this place, but the waitress look like they are not happy serving customer and dont even try to hide it. One time I come with my friends, we come when the shop just open so there are still plenty of space. They want to sit us near the back kitchen which get really hot, because we sit there last time when we dine in, so I asked us to move to another table, anywhere beside that seat. At that time the store just open and there are many seats, but she insist we need to take that seat or leave, she just making excuse that another table is for people with the stroller and etc. Fyi, We did not demand big table or anything we just want different space and we explained it to her. Well, in the end we did not dine there and go somewhere else. We will be back for the food, maybe...
