I went to the restaurant with my English students. One of them tried placing the order alone and they got the wrong option. We asked politely if something could be done and the waitress was already rude enough (she was really stressed) saying we should talk to a guy I suppose is the manager. He arrived speaking loudly and angrily that my student should know what she was saying (which surprises me coming from a non native speaker that knows the challenges of communicating through a second language). All that to actually change the dish in the end.
When I was leaving, I tried talking to the manager just to give some feedback because my student got scared and really upset with the situation. He not only didn’t want to hear but started screaming that he couldn’t waste his time with people that don’t know how to place an order.
The food is ok (Thai food is always good) but customer service is a huge disappointment. Staff acts in a really weird way so the atmosphere is very chaotic. I live close to the restaurant and used to come here eventually, but after this episode and considering all the other good Thai options with lovely staff you can easily find around Manly, I will definitely not be coming back. Super...
Read moreExploring the lunch specials at two top-rated Thai restaurants in Manly, next up was Manly Thai Gourmet, offering meals from only $12 and an elevated view of Manly Beach. Arriving at 12:30 pm, the bustling restaurant swiftly accommodated patrons, and we secured a balcony table.
The service is food court style; patrons manage their water, utensils, and napkins. With just two staff at the front, one for orders and the other for delivering and clearing dishes, the busy and understaffed setting left some tables with dirty plates.
Despite the hustle, the food arrived promptly. Opting for Pad Thai and Pad See Eww for a fair comparison, we were impressed by the substantial portion sizes, surpassing the other Thai place. The glossy noodles boasted ample sauce, although the dish lacked fresh vegetables and balance. Some reviews echoed our sentiment that the dishes erred on the sweet side, leaving a lingering, somewhat sickly aftertaste until the next meal.
Indeed, Manly Thai Gourmet is an excellent choice for those seeking a budget-friendly option with captivating views, particularly if you have a...
Read moreI visited Manly Thai Gourmet on Monday, 17th March 2025, with my parents and my accredited assistance dog (she is a medical alert dog), who was clearly identified with her assistance dog jacket and collar. Despite explaining that, under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), assistance dogs are legally permitted in all public areas, the staff refused us entry, stating they don't allow dogs. Even after informing them of their legal obligations and potential for a formal complaint, they remained dismissive and became increasingly aggressive.
This experience was deeply disappointing and reflects a lack of awareness and respect for individuals with disabilities. There are many great restaurants in the area that provide excellent food and service while also respecting the rights of all customers. I would not recommend dining here, as supporting this establishment means endorsing behaviour that excludes people with disabilities. I am also filling a complaint complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) under the Disability...
