Firstly, the young lady who served me first was lovely - ! She didnt know what refried beans were, um, but she was friendly, listened, and was fun! The food came out really quick. At first thought the cornchips were still to come, but no - they were simply hidden under the toppings. A single layer of chips - I had 11-12 chips. The skillet they came on was barely warm, the food was kinda cold, incl the chips - Im not sure what thr skillet was for. When I asked if i could have more corn chips, was asked if Id like a side of corn chips? For $4. !! I mentioned the sparseness in thr “meal” and declined the side order. A minute later the picture complimentary side of corn chips appeared - maybe 8? 10? And considering how much of the main food was left? And cold as well. Then, immediately that I had finished and was still using my napkin, the guy reached in front of me and lifted my ‘plate’ away. I was still wiping my mouth! Unbelieveable. And im not sure why, but he kept hovering at the front of the entrance which I found really offputting - it is, afterall, a mexican food joint. No menu was proffered for dessert or anything further. Very underwhelmed. The view was really nice, and the place has huge potential. But theres a reason it was the quietest place on the waterfront.

We were craving some delicious Mexican food and stopped into Mex & Co in Manly. There were lots of tables which to choose from so you could be seated outside or under shelter if the weather wasn't too nice. We ordered the black bean Nachos and halloumi Fajitas. The food took quite a long time to come out but there was only one server working and it was quite busy. We did think the food was quite pricey for the portion sizes once they arrived. The Nachos had a generous amount of toppings but not many actual Nacho chips themselves. The toppings were nice a fresh and had simple flavours. The Fajitas came out nice and hot on a sizzling plate with toppings to build them yourself as you'd like. The flavours of the Fajitas themselves was nice but it was a little bit oily. Also bear in mind they don't let you split the bill if this is an issue for you, but this is fairly common in Sydney and so didn't bother us.

The food was mediocre at best, however, could not believe the audacity of the restaurant to charge a $5 surcharge for Sunday... when the staff don't even get any Sunday compensation! Also, no notice was given about the surcharge which makes it highly fraudulent. Disgusted and will no longer come to this restaurant which is obviously greedy. I wouldn't mind paying the surcharge if it was a public holiday AND the staff were being paid my surcharge. Really disappointed with the management of this restaurant for this decision. When I questioned this surcharge, I was told that management advised that this is their standard practice.

I happened to drop in here with my friends for a very nice dinner but upon entering the service from the workers were very disregarding and rude even though the restaurant were empty, still hungry and wanting to indulge into the Mexican food we decided to stay, ordering we were confused with the names in Spanish and the waiter kept dismissing us even though we didn't know what food we were ordering. even till this point we decided to stay for the food, when the food came the portions were horrifyingly small, while ignoring the portions we continued to eat, the food we ordered was tacos, burritos, nachos and enchiladas, all these food contained meat and all of it was microwaved and was so dry and rock hard, the enchiladas has cheese as it should but 60% of it was cheese and each wrap/tortilla contained next to no meat and was covered in so much cheese that was just MICROWAVED it was greasy. the tacos meat was cold and had no filling as well the burrito having also zero to no meat. what was meant to be the BEEF BURRITO had contained also once again zero to no meat you could have basically said it was a tortilla with limited beans and rice. the nacho was decent but it could have been described as taste of metal and iron in some parts of the dish. but overall all of the dishes all had NO SPICES I'm not even sure salt was used to spice these dishes but it was so bland and compared nothing to the expectations ( which we had no expectations for after we walked into the restaurant (which says a lot)). For the price i have paid for this meal it has irked me and repulsed as me i could have easily spent my time and money at GYG where the food is a guaranteed money well spent. some could say the price is more pricey for the ambience and the vibe of the place but the restaurant had once again like the food had zero to no vibe. shall we now talk about the building it self ? the toilet was disgusting with the tap fallen off and i had to personally place it back on to use the sink and also having black mould everywhere making it so unhygienic and disgusting. I would love to know how this place has 3.8 stars and how people have even vaguely enjoyed the food at this place. I am not one who particularly has high expectations for restaurant as long as it is edible and presentable which this restaurant failed to achieve, this place is and should not be open as it is not competent enough for it to operate in...

I wouldn’t normally bother giving a review, good or bad, I just wouldn’t return if I didn’t like it, but this place is the worst. And people need to know.

Years ago it was great... but having lunch here today with my friends was so disappointing, even sickening. At $7 per taco I was expecting reasonable quality or at least something fresh. Everything about those three little tacos was terrible. I had 2x fish and one mushroom taco. Tasteless toppings, stale tortillas... the battered fish was not memorable, literally I don’t remember what it tasted like, the rest was that bad. And the mushroom taco....!!!? Oh god. I was expecting maybe a light batter, akin to a tempura... you really can’t get that wrong. No joke, tinned mushrooms! No doubt about it, they were from a can. Literally shaken twice and placed on a bed of dry ‘coleslaw’.

My friend’s chicken nachos was no better! Sure it resembled nachos, a dollop of sour cream and excessive jalapeños on top, but underneath it looked like it had been prep’d the day before... hardly one crispy corn chip in sight, with the majority just a big sloppy mess of wet starch. Like a soggy napkin.

The final straw, the calamari my other friend got. She had one and left it. The smell was rancid. So fishy it was sickening. I kept looking at it trying to imagine what the spices were they used to get that smell but honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just old old fish slid over a hot fry pan and served. I tried the sauce it came with... tartare. So imaginative. At least try to make it Mexican.

How can a restaurant in a central location like Manly expect to survive in a pandemic and a recession with such dismal offerings? And how has anyone given this place 5 stars.

I’ve read some of the reviews on here and I’m so glad I didn’t look in the kitchen. It sounds horrendous. I’m just sorry I paid.

Try any other of the great Mexican restaurants on the beaches... same price if not cheaper and...

1 star because there is no option to put 0 stars. I am beyond disgraced with the service, food and manners at this restaurant. First of all, upon arrival we were not greeted and rather ignored as we had to find our own table. Our server was unexplainably rude and was visibly uninterested in their job. He talked to us as if we were 4 year olds and he was very belittling. When one of my friends had trouble saying a menu item due to it being in Spanish, our server kept cutting her off and rolling his eyes. Once the food arrived we had even more issues. Each and every meal that my group ordered had obviously been microwaved due to the amount of oil and moisture in the dishes, that made puddles on our plates. The meat in the tacos and burritos was cold in the middle and a chunk of the shredded meat was even burnt to the point where it created a rock hard lump in my food. All food had lack of seasoning and overall tasted repulsive. No meals were eaten entirely due to the very bland and even gag worthy taste. The food was also incredibly overpriced, especially for the product that was served. The bathrooms at this place were also beyond disgusting. The cleanliness was non existent. There was no toilet paper, the hand dryer was mouldy, rusty and decaying, the sink was clogged with murky yellow liquid and the smell was feral. Our money was wasted. We all felt sick. I will never recommend this place to ANYBODY as I do not wish for anyone to experience what we had to. Do not go here. I promise you it is...
