Last Saturday night we decided to try out Misfits, a newly opened bar/restaurant in George Street Redfern.
We were a group of four and as soon as we walked through the door, I had a feeling that we were going to have a great night. The retro inspired decor and subdued lighting give Misfits a very inviting atmosphere. The background music is set at just the right level so that you can actually hear yourself talk and are able to have a decent conversation.
The staff serving our table were friendly and attentive without being over the top. Even though it was a Saturday night and busy, we were given plenty of time to eat our food and were not rushed through our dishes. Our table water bottle was also replaced as needed, without us having to ask.
The menu at Misfits offers a wide variety and is very reasonably priced. We decided to share dishes and as requested by us, these were brought out in stages so that we had enough time to savour them all. My stand out favourite was the pan fried haloumi, perfectly prepared and one of the best haloumi dishes that I've been served in Sydney. My husband loved the beef tartare and charred octopus and the lamb empanadas were absolutely delicious.
After our meal we went to the bar and enjoyed some cocktails. The Chilli Margarita and Espresso Martini were spectacular. Congratulations to the cocktail waiter!!
Well done Misfits!! A great new venue. We'll definitely...
Read moreCame here on a Friday afternoon to have lunch with my girlfriends. I’ve always wanted to try this bar, for I’ve heard amazing things about it, and curious to see what how quirky everyone described it as.
One step into the venue and it sets up expectations for the rest of the experience. The entire bar is adorned with “misfit” decor like a Twiggy print, Bowie mural, Robbie Williams coasters, and 60s and 70s themed mirrors, chairs, books, green block coloured walls, and photos along the dining room. Misfits doesn’t take itself seriously and that is the point.
For food we tried the oysters with ponzu, haloumi with apricot and almond, tuna tartare, pan fried salmon fillet, and for dessert burnt honey Pannacotta. My absolute favourite was the tuna, thought the crowd favourite was the haloumi.
Our drinks were the winner of the day, perfect and clean, very characteristic. Pampelle Spritz is very easy to drink, Twiggy is very bitter and “skinny feeling”, and Green With Envy is delightfully sweet. My favourite was the Twiggy, I like bitter cocktails.
Can’t wait to bring my girls...
Read moreWe hired a private room for a birthday party and it was fabulous! The decor is late 1950s and early 60s. The lime green walls really offset the fantastically kitch ornaments and wall hangings. It's such a great place for a fun evening. We had cocktail jugs for the group and the Catering provided was great too. Meats, cheese, breads, some potato croquettes and polenta chips with dips. They also have a private bar in the room, which is great for getting quick service and not having to separate the party to get drinks. The staff are great. So friendly and helpful.
