There are few things better than a hot bowl of ramen on a cold, rainy day โ. Rara ramen serves a mean hearty bowl of traditional Japanese ramen ๐. Their thin Hakata styled noodles are made in-house along with their top secret 14-hour slowed stirred tonkotsu broth ๐ฎ. Their menu features a limited number of speciality ramens, including 2 vegan ramens ๐. Featured in this post - Tonkotsu Ramen with housemate black garlic and chilli๐ โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ (Check my profile bio for a description of the ๐ฝ๏ธ๐คฉ๐ต emojis) ๐ฝ๏ธ - Very very filliiinng...... The heavenly combination of noodle and meaty broth is heavy . Tbh, I would've struggled to finish this bowl of the ramen didn't taste this good! The bowl contains Hakata styled noodles, Tonkotsu broth , seasoned bamboo๐, chashu pork๐ท (sorry halal foodies ๐ข), one seasoned egg ๐ฅ, shallots and shredded black fungus ๐. ๐คฉ - Their rich and creamy house-made Tonkotsu broth has a rather smooth and milky finish to it. Unlike most other ramen places in Sydney, it doesn't leave a fatty feeling in your mouth! The Hakata styled noodles are thin, long, chewy and quite slurpable ๐. In terms of taste notes, the killer combo of the black garlic๐ง and chilli๐ถ๏ธ hit me right in the spot and gave me a warm homely feeling in my little curry belly ๐ . ๐ต - $18.80 for the black garlic and chilli oil option ($16.90 without it, but would highly recommend spending the extra $1.9 on the black garlic and chilli combo). โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ ***PRO TIP: Prepare for at least a 15 to 20 minute waitโณ. Also they do not accept phone bookings ๐. A fair trade-off for such amazing ramen ๐

๐Rara 66b Regent St, Redfern NSW 2016 Pork Gyoza ๐ฅ - $10.9 โญ๏ธ7.5/10 5 pork dumplings, steamed and pan fried. Garnished with sliced shallots and served with our house made soy vinegar dipping sauce. RaRa Tonkotsu Black Garlic ๐ง- $21.70 โญ๏ธ7.5/10 House made pork Tonkotsu broth with shio tare. Topped with coal grilled free range chashu (braised pork belly), seasoned bamboo, half ajitsuke tamago (seasoned egg), shallots, shredded black fungus with the addition of mayu (black garlic oil). Burnt garlic flavour with a unique sweet and slightly smokey profile. Served with our house made thin Hakata noodles. Tori Paitan ๐- $21.50 โญ๏ธ8.5/10 Tori Paitan (the chicken cousin of Tonkotsu), a creamy silky chicken alternative to pork ramen. Topped with half ajitsuke tamago (seasoned egg), shallots, boneless chicken thigh chashu, grilled corn and served with a wedge of lime and sancho pepper. All it was good but not good enough to come back the second round. ๐ I don't understand why they charge an extra $1.90 for the chili oil. They basically use Sichuan pepper in the chili oil, which you can find in many other places where it's offered for free in Chinese restaurants, while in this case it was used for ramen, but I donโt think itโs special enough to justify an additional charge for just chili oil.

They are too stingy for their soup. I went there with my husband and ordered one ramen with extra noodle and one mazesoba. Ramen came first with extra noodles on the side. Soup seemed too less for noodles so I asked lady for more soup if possible (I didn't mind to pay extra) but she said they measure the right amount of soup for the noodles so can't give us more. If they are only providing right amount of soup for one serving of noodles, why are they selling extra noodles? And it's $4? Even without extra noodles, their soup is just not enough to be called noodle soup.. It was more like dried noodles. And mazesoba came after 15mins ramen was served. We went there at 12 (their opening time) and were only 4th customers, not sure why there was such time gap in between. They take pride that their noodles are hand but guys.. They really need to work on noodles. It's was too floury, not chewy at all. That's probably why their noodles absorb soup a lot more than other shops. I'm a big fan of Japanese ramen. I used to travel Japan alot and Ramen is always in my To Eat list, also I have been to those famous and popular ramen restaurants in Sydney. For me I don't think there will be second visit at RaRa, it's over rated. Ippudo ramen is way way better in terms of flavour and price isn't too different especially if you eat alot, ippudo charge only $1 for extra noodles and yet you will still have plenty of soup.

This was the ultimate surprise packet, we were taken here by one of our beautiful daughters, who had inside knowledge. I advise you to book - they cram lots of folks in here without it being claustrophobic, but there is always a large amount of punters outside. That said, we were greeted warmly and waited a moment for a table, but were then seated. The menu was not particularly long, which I appreciated, because it was an excellent range without being pretentious. We used the app to order, which is always appreciated. The drinks range was also good and they were interesting in their composition. I had a wonderful Japanese beer and my offsiders also enjoyed their drinkers. The food was nothing short of remarkable, arriving quickly and being hot and delicious. The serving sizes were generous and unbelievably tasty. The ambience was excellent - the small size felt exclusive and special. The seating was minimal in stature, but again, it added to the experience rather than detracting from it. The staff were super friendly and engaging. These were the BEST ramen ever.

We had a great experience. We'd heard there was a wait, but we arrived at around 6.30pm on a Thursday night, so it wasn't so bad. They placed us at the bar immediately to get us started on drinks, and within ten minutes we were already seated at the window with drinks and our orders placed! We ordered the Yulli's Margot ciders which were divine. Food came out super quick, steamy and hot, but not like, burning our tongues which was great. The ramen noodles were spot on, my partner ordered the vegan Miso and I ordered the vegan Soy Shio. The Shio has a bit of a bite to it which I actually preferred over the Miso, but that one was packed with extra veggies and tofu, so neither of us had food envy and both felt like we had winning dishes. Our Pulled Jackfruit Baos came out a bit after our ramen, and were heavenly. Really loved the vegan garlic sauce, chilli threads and fresh coriander. Overall, lovely wait staff and a delicious vegan experience. Can't wait to see what other vegan dishes they bring out in the future. Glad we aimed for an early dinner to avoid the queues!

It's not bad, but honestly it's not that good either. The signature Tonkotsu ramen was okay, broth was fine but not great. Noodles had a nice bite, but very quickly took on a paste-like quality that was disappointing, despite not sitting for very long. Both the grilled pork and beef brisket bao were tasty, but be warned the menu doesn't mention it has kimchi and a tasty but quite spicy mayo. Venue was not well ventilated and incredibly smokey - your clothes will smell strongly of bbq smoke afterwards, despite this being a ramen bar with no bbq items on the menu. Service was not great - the lady who served us mixed up which items were which, and struggled to say any of the dishes names. Water is also self service, which wouldn't be a problem except the corridor you'd need to squeeze through is quite narrow with people sitting either side. Be warned the wait time estimates are also wildly inaccurate - a 15-20 min estimate turned out to be a 1 hour wait. Overall wouldn't recommend, it's overpriced and quite overhyped for what it is.
