Unfortunately I have to post this mid dinner at the pub due to the treatment we received. I have visited the pub severally before, and the food and service has always been great. However, tonight the service has been deplorable. I wanted to try something new and ordered their noodle salad, and something was off in the salad, making it not palatable. I explained this as soon as I could, and apologised for any inconvenience. The waiter seemed lovely and offered to change my order. Being considerate, I ordered something within the price range of the salad, double checking the contents and was happy. This was prepared and offered, and said my thank yous!
Now I don’t know if I can choke it up to age/professionalism or poor customer service but the waitress went behind the bar, in earshot and discussed this, and the whole evening, glared at our table each time they pass. Wait, not just her, but her colleagues as well.
No one likes returning food! It’s a nerve wrecking process! But the above experience made it more uncomfortable than it usually is.

The Redfern's owners have rescued this formerly rough old pub and turned it into a friendly, beautiful venue where long-term locals and newly-arrived families are all welcome. Whoever did the interior renovations has a brilliant eye for industrial heritage and colour. Now it's a comfortable spot for weekends, and a brilliant little corner (plenty of outdoor benches and tables) for everyday people watching. This part of Redfern is definitely looking up. Come see for yourself.
Pro-tip: as of mid-2022, a takeaway six pack of Coopers is cheaper here than at Dan Murphy's.
(If you were wondering, the pub does not tolerate misbehaviour by patrons visiting from the Suicide Towers.)
Missy The Cat Star Ratings:
5 - a place of rare genius that merits repeated return visits
4 - a strong effort with no major shortcomings
3 - a solid, worthy effort with perhaps one important thing to fix
2 - several important things wrong, but at least one important thing right
1 - can't be given a zero, doesn't deserve a dollar (as of...
Read moreWhat happened to the service here? I used to love this (albeit overpriced) place. Yesterday I was greeted with staff who were abrupt and frankly need a lesson in culturally appropriate behaviour. An Indigenous lady was standing at the take away fridge for a long while, to which I heard from one of the bar staff (to the other who had her stare fixed on the lady at the fridge, almost anticipating when she will shop lift ), ‘I reckon she’s put one in her bag’. Of course she was innocently browsing the fridges and I’m glad she did not hear any of this. I question, would they have had a similar attitude if I were standing there for a long time (as a white male). I think staff need a lesson in culturally appropriate behaviour, a lesson about the history of the area in which you operate and a reminder that having a liquor licence also requires a level of...
