Sadly, this business doesn’t pay its bills. Their temperamental, unequipt CFO really lets down an otherwise decent business. Unfortunately, that renders them unsustainable.
UPDATE FOLLOWING ON AFTER RESPONSE FROM OWNER @VANDAL:
I’m sorry that it has taken this for you to respond in a reasonable manner, or respond at all.
Interesting, this is the third different argument you’ve presented for not paying for this freelancers work.
First it was fully agreed with you that the work took place, but your CFO didn’t believe our terms of business warranted payment, despite having paid us for 6 previous successful hires including this one, for the first stint of work he did before you took the decision to cut us out.
Second, we were told by your CFO that yes indeed, there are seven invoices in total on file for the freelancer in question, but you’d already paid us for the first month of his work and so you didn’t believe you should have to continue to pay for any further work (?!). This was an interesting argument coming from someone who, given their title, should know better. I do question this persons qualifications, given that she appears to lack standard industry knowledge, doesn't abide by terms of business and treated us with the manners of a pit bull after many years of good service to Vandal, when we have been nothing but polite and understanding about this unfortunate situation.
Now we are onto our third excuse: denial of any work taking place whatsoever.
This says a lot in itself.
Which evidence would you like? The recorded call with the freelancer explaining how he worked for you for 1.5 years straight after we placed him? The recorded call with your borderline aggressive CFO who told us that there are 7 invoices on file for this person and a pile of expenses paid to him? Or the multiple emails we have already forwarded to you in which we agreed the specific terms of business and rates around this specific freelance hire?
It is a shame that you have chosen to take a dishonest path for the sake of a small fee when we did this work for you in good faith. It sadly says a lot about the Vandal brand who we previously strongly supported and championed.
Some things to note: We would always help a business in need. We could have looked at a reduced fee, or a payment plan, as we do for businesses who make honest mistakes and own up to them if they should so require because we firmly believe in humanity. Whilst we may be the ‘small guys’ in this situation, we will not be bullied, we do truly great work, we are honest and act in good faith, we work tirelessly to provide the absolute best people and work possible because we really do care. We value our time and the time of our consultants who work so hard to bring amazing results for businesses like Vandal, and we do not suffer dishonest, dodgy dealings in business. We feel terrible on behalf of the consultant who placed this freelancer with you since we cannot remunerate him due to your choices. The best we can do for him in absence of payment, is leave this public review so that other honest businesses do not fall into the same trap.
Whilst you can continue to ignore us (when not on a public forum 🙄) and make as many excuses as you wish, and indeed avoid payment of monies owed, I urge you to think about whether this is really the reputation and the type of karma you wish to carry forward for yourselves.
If you would like to settle this invoice in an honest manner, acknowledge your error, make amends and do the right thing, you know where we are.
Here is a screenshot of the freelancers own linkedin profile, detailing the work that apparently ‘didn’t take place’. I suppose he is also fabricating that this...
Read moreThis is my new fave spot in Sydney! The food was amazing, service was great and honestly, really good deal. We got the $25 set which came with 6 dishes that were more than enough for both my hubby and I. I love that the place is powered by solar panels, there’s no lights in the kitchen except heat lamps at night, furniture is refurbished. Wow, I’ve never seen another restaurant so committed to sustainability. All food is sourced locally and they use all parts of the ingredients in various dishes.
My fave dish was the chargrilled corn and croquettes. Every dish were so amazing! I also really enjoyed my al pastor tacos. My hubby got the carnitas, which were pretty good as well. Also the drinks are incredible. We got the triple threat margarita and a coconut lychee frozen margarita - both were amazing and we finished them quickly. The dessert churros were also incredible - you cannot tell the ice cream has no dairy in it!
Love it. And can’t wait to be back for...

Great if you've got friends with different dietary needs. If you've been before but not in the last year, note that they've moved locations in early 2025. Their set menu has got to be one of the best value feeds around in Sydney! Couldn't...
