This bar is just what Ashfield needed.
Whether you're just looking for a drink or a meal too, this is the place.
Set in a jazzed-up post-industrial space, fully-equipped with an impressive array of spirits, and with local craft beers on tap and in the fridge, it's got more than enough Inner-West-cred when it comes to alcohol without any pretense or pretentiousness. It is, genuinely, 'cool'. It also helps that "happy hour" runs from 4pm till 7pm each week night (minus Monday).
That's not all. The food menu is reasonably extensive for a small bar. What's more, each time we visit, we try something new and we are consistently blown away. Whether it is a new special, or a standard dish, they deliver every time. This isn't your regular pub fare, they're well-made and interesting dishes. You cannot go wrong with something from this menu.
If you're a fan of live music, that's on Saturdays and Sundays from 4pm. The space can get pretty loud when that's on, so if you're looking for a quieter conversation, or if what's playing isn't your jam, come a bit later in the evening.
When this place opened up in COVID-19, I wasn't sure they'd make it. Thank...
Read moreI had booked a table for a special occasion with a friend of mine to enjoy some dinner with live music. On our way to the venue we noticed that we may be a few minutes late so we took the initiative of calling the bar to let them know. The lady on the phone said that they can hold the table until 7:45pm. We arrive at 7:40pm and the manager tells us that they gave our seat to somebody else because the boss “told her to do so”. And when I asked to speak to the boss he had apparently gone for a joy walk. Is this how you treat customers? Every restaurant I’ve been to have a 15 minute window for bookings, not only did we call in advance but we arrived before their spontaneously established limit and we had to go and find something else. Nobody was apologetic, they were dismissive if anything. The owner should be ashamed of himself/herself and should abolish the booking system entirely as it is an outright lie.
Our appointment was at 7:30, not 7pm do not lie to your customers. Accept the feedback gracefully and stop ruining your reputation...
Read moreThis is a gem of a place to dine and listen to great music in the heart if the Inner West!. The atmosphere is lively and inviting with a mix of young and old patrons, music buffs and passers-by who hear the music and drop in for a listen. All the musicians and singers/entertainers are polished and professional. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent-prompt and efficient. To get a table near the band you'll need to book as the tables fill quickly, though there is other seating available both inside and outside. The food is a fantastic mixture of Asian, American and contemporary Australian-something for everyone (burgers, chips, salads, noodles, spring rolls, ribs, southern fried chicken, asian tasing plate, kids menu). Miss Celie's should be celebrated for supporting local talent and providing a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for live music, something sorely lacking in the once vibrant music...
