Disappointing Decline Under New Ownership - A Longtime Customer Lost (Palace of North India, Rozelle - March 2025 )
For over 20 years, Palace of North India in Rozelle has been a cherished stop for me—first as a Balmain local and later whenever I’ve visited Sydney. It was a place I’d make a point to revisit, drawn by fond memories of consistently good food. Last night, however, I was met with a starkly different experience that has sadly ended my loyalty to this establishment.
The restaurant has clearly changed hands, as evidenced by the fresh paint, new signage, and an updated look—initially promising signs of revitalization. But my optimism quickly faded. While waiting to order my usual beef vindaloo (a dish I’ve enjoyed here countless times), I watched the customer ahead of me take what appeared to be the last substantial portion. When my turn came, I requested a large container of the same dish. The server scraped the remaining meat into my container—barely enough to cover the bottom—then filled it halfway with sauce. Acknowledging the shortfall, she assured me she’d fetch more from the back.
After a five-minute wait, a staff member returned with my order packed up. I drove home, eager to dig in, only to discover a shocking disappointment. The container, now full, contained almost no additional meat and was instead brimming with a thin, watery liquid. The flavor was diluted, and the texture was a far cry from the rich, robust vindaloo I’d come to expect. In all my years of enjoying this dish—here and elsewhere—I’ve never encountered a worse rendition.
It’s heartbreaking to see a place I’ve supported for two decades fall so far under new management. While the cosmetic upgrades are nice, they mean little when the food quality has deteriorated to this extent. After this experience, I won’t be returning. A 20-year tradition has come to an end, and I’ll be taking my...
Read moreWorst experience ever. my dad usually orders uber eats when he visits to sydney i travelled with him for the first time and he insisted on ordering. here because the food is really good which he thinks it is but , the entire order was a disaster. The packaging was leaking, items were missing, and when I called to explain, the woman on the phone insisted everything was packed what if it went to another persons order and its not possible that the ubder driver would have taken it because the bags were sealed so tightly, it was clear nothing had been taken out. Instead of taking responsibility for forgetting items, they chose to lie or not look in to it . Absolutely unacceptable. Terrible customer service and dishonest response. And since I have had food which was just curry and rice my stomach is paining the food is swimming in oil...
Read moreAmazing restaurant... great food...lots of options to choose from dining in or takeaway. I tried the Biryani and I got addicted to it! Very flavoursome with lots of tasty spices, generous portion and super inviting garnishes on top. I also tried the Aloo Matar curry, and it was just as excellent. Prices are very reasonable and cheaper than other Indian restaurants in the inner west area. The service was great as well...nice and welcoming lady who caters for all your order specifics...this was my 4th time here and I'll keep coming back to it. Highly recommended if you're in the inner west area (Rozelle)...and on top of the already competitive pricing, you get an extra 10% discount when paying by cash. Check it out... really nice...
