If I could give 0 stars I would. We decided to book this restaurant for a joint birthday celebration as it had quite good reviews. To say that we are shocked is an understatement. The staff here were extremely unwelcoming, rude and condescending. The service we received was appalling and it was not what we should have experienced from a high end, established restaurant like this. After having waited to be seated at our extremely dim lit table on the sidewalk, we were given our menus which primarily was in Italian. Our party had openly expressed that we did not completely understand the menu and the waitress did not make any attempts to explain the menu to us. As a word of feedback for the restaurant, It would be nice to provide a translation of the food for customers who are not well versed in Italian to understand; even yum cha restaurants have the courtesy to do this. The lack of inclusiveness and condescending nature of the waitress was extremely disheartening and left a sour taste in our mouths. As previously mentioned, the outdoor seating was very dark, unwelcoming and full of mosquitos. Furthermore, we would have appreciated some transparency in regards to the water. We were only provided with two options still or sparkling and thought that still water was equivalent to tap water. For our party of 6 people we ended up spending 1/10 of the bill on water. Had the service been good, we wouldn’t have minded the cost of the water, however, the service provided was not transparent nor helpful. Staff did not have the courtesy to ask us when opening a new bottle. The prices did not translate into the service provided by Rachele or the dishes served. By the end of the night we were serving ourselves, having to get spoons ourselves and waiting quite a while to be served. As we were finishing off our meal, our friend was told quite rudely to “give me the receipt” and it was yanked out of her hand and the eftpos machine just dropped on the table. We were flabbergasted with how rude and utterly appalling the service was by the end of the night. The waitress serving us was lazy and incompetent and made the whole experience quite awful; our whole party was dumbfounded by the lack of service and hospitality. What should have been a lovely dinner with a group of friends to celebrate ended in a night of disappointment. Overall, the food was quite underwhelming. The steak and tiramisu were alright, but honestly, you can get this anywhere else with much better service.

FOOD POISONING ALERT 🚨 My partner and I booked a dinner reservation at Pino’s Vino e Cucina for our anniversary last night (which we specified on our booking). Upon arrival we were greeted with a petty sip worth of Prosecco each as a free celebratory drink for our special evening. Although nice, a little more in the glass would have been more welcoming and enjoyable. We choose the five course gestation menu which began with an eggplant starter dish. It was very pleasant to eat and unfortunately was the highlight of the night. This was followed by a spaghetti dish. My partner and I immediately noticed the spaghetti was cold, hard and undercooked. We didn’t complain as we gave the benefit of doubt and we were excited for the third course. The third course came and it was another pasta dish. The pasta was again undercooked. As this was the second mishap, we kindly asked the waitress to take back the dishes as they were too hard and unpleasant to eat. In response the waitress was argumentative and denied it was undercooked, even resisting to take it back to the kitchen. This made my partner and I so uncomfortable that we continually apologised for their mistake. When we got our replacement pasta, it was just as undercooked as the one we had just sent back. Feeling deflated and considering the treatment we received, we decided to just eat and try and enjoy the evening. For the rest of the night we were subject to resentment, coldness, and sarcasm from the staff which was a stark contrast to how we had been treated at the beginning of the night. The forth dish was pork belly with cracking. It was dry and overly seasoned. Followed by a dessert that tasted like it was selected from the frozen section at coles. The bad temperament of the staff and the bad food ruined what was meant to be a special evening. To top everything off my partner spent the night being sick from what we can only assume to be food poisoning from the restaurant. The total bill came to ~$350 and for that price point we were incredibly disappointed. We will never be returning to this restaurant and sure as hell will not be recommending it anyone. If possible we would like to be refunded, as not only the food and service was terrible, but it ruined our anniversary.

(4.5 stars) An old-school corner store on a residential street in Alexandria opens into a darkened dining room. Exposed bricks, strapped in brown leather banquettes and wooden rafters create an organic, womb-like space to nestle into for a convivial meal with family and friends. The costly (all $25) but rewarding cocktail list at Pino's Vino e Cucina produces a few winners: Ciao Ciao takes Acho Blanco tequila somewhere light, frothy and pretty, while Smooky employs Copper Dog Whisky to make a sultry, smoky sipper. Wine mark-ups are all over the place, but the shrewd consumer is rewarded admirably with the 2020 Polperro ‘Red Hill’ Pinot Noir ($108) from the Mornington Peninsula throwing perfumed red fruits with some mystery and intrigue underneath. Get to know it with a selection of salumi ($30/2), olives ($8) and house-baked crusty, sourdough bread ($8): the mortadella is fantastic. From the brightly lit kitchen, chef Cristiano Patacca sends out seasonal contemporary Italian dishes. Aged Comte panna cotta ($25) has retro jelly mould appeal, eating creamily against clever puffed wheat balls in a colourful beetroot and fermented persimmon sauce. Crisp potato shreds hide charred octopus tentacles ($32) on potato cream with blackened shishito peppers. A tangle of crisp mushrooms sits over ox tongue ($29)—cooked tender and beefy—polenta and corn, dusted with porcini powder. Wagyu tartare ($30), scooped out onto crisp bread. is made all the more indulgent with Avruga caviar and a bone marrow emulsion. The entree highlight however are two fat Skull Island prawns ($35) served in the shell in a decadent puddle of cognac and parsley butter that prompts us to request more bread. Saffron strozzapreti ($32) with wagyu shin ragout it’s richness amped by a bone marrow gremolata, wins battle pasta. We punctuate the pastas with juicy zucchini trifoliate ($15) liberally dusted with smoked bottarga. We had just enough time to gobble a hay-smoked crème caramel ($18) and pay the (somewhat pricy) bill before staff bustled us onto the sidewalk to prep. for their next sitting. Two-hour table limits are back: we must finally be turning that post-pandemic corner.

I can't put into words how this was the worst hospitality experience I've had in Australia in the last 7 years I've lived here.

I was with my friend at Ground of Alexandria and we wanted to have pasta for dinner afterwards. I found this place with good reviews and we decided to go check it out. It was supposed to be an Italian Restaurant.

The place looks very pretty, but the way we were treated was completely opposite. We ordered a wine and a carbonara and unfortunately the dish came with an extremely black pepper flavor, inedible. The pasta wasn't good, it was tough. I've tried carbonara in several different countries, including Italy and I can assure you that this was not the dish offered and I asked before I ordered. We couldn't eat a bite of it. We sent it back straight away and the waitress was really impatient. Unfortunately, my friend and I ordered the same thing, so we didn't eat it.

No one offered to maybe remake the sauce or find a solution, they just looked at us like we were bothering them. Nothing has been done.

We were very upset and decided to just finish our wine.

When the bill arrived, they charged us for the poorly prepared dish and the manager came over with a rude air to say that we had ordered the dish. I told him that we had not eaten anything from the dish at all and yet he started raising his voice and moving his hands very close to my face and my friend's, since the place is small. I asked him if he was the manager of the place and he said he was and I said that unfortunately that was a bad thing. Manager is supposed to help the business, not ruin it.

As a business owner, I would NEVER treat a customer the way I was treated. I can confirm that this wasn't because of the $68 we had to throw away. This was because of the horrible attitude and customer service of this place.

My friend and I ended the night hungry and upset.

He didn't stop talking loudly to me until I pay and I just did because I want to leave the place and my friend was really uncomfortable. Customers next to us and at the bar were watching what was happening. It was a terrible scene.

I understand that as a business, losses are never a good thing, but unfortunately in this restaurant, if the chef makes a mistake, its not their problem, customer pays the bill.

I hope you improve in your...
