Such a hidden gem!!! I was trying out eat club for the first time and came across this restaurant, looked amazing so we booked in and showed up at 7:45pm on Friday the 26th of September. Where do i even begin??? First, let’s start with the staff, they made the experience 100 times better ! The staff knew the menu super well and were super attentive, nice and well mannered! Now the food! We got the chef selection of the cheese plate and the charcuterie plate. It was absolutely amazing, the meat and cheese was so delicious and flavourful, and the presentation was top tier! The mixed breads also added to it, adding in a little kick of flavour! For mains we got the mussels, the duck and the red snapper, i have absolutely no complaints, my personal favourite was the duck, the sauce with the blackberries and the carrots was such an unexpected and delicious flavour, the duck was cooked well and was so tender. My dad’s favourite were the mussels, he was absolutely obsessed with the sauce that he wanted to take the leftovers home to dip some bread in it! (Shoutout to the staff for organising for us to take the leftover sauce with us! Even though it’s an unusual request hahah). The atmosphere of the restaurant is also amazing, with beautiful interior including their wall of shelves which is super aesthetic and ties the place together! Overall, amazing place and another shoutout for the employee who ran out of the restaurant to find us and give us our stuff that we left behind! 10/10 place with amazing food, staff and atmosphere, definitely a hidden gem that you must visit. I wish we had room for dessert, oh well, means we need to return !!

4.5* Did you hear the joke about the French chef? Me neither. There's arguably no stereotype as kind as the French chef. Fat? Sure that's a plus. Assured? What else would you expect? This place is the embodiment of that type casting. The food is contemporary, but unmistakably Gallic. A few slips. Asking for reservations the place is half empty and no reservations exist that lunch is weird. Offering stools in said spacious circumstances is as welcoming as Donetsk bar to a Stoly salesman. The prawns at $15 each for 2 should be as whopping as the price, but ain't. And they're cooked as if they twice the girth, resulting in an unfortunate stringy quartet. But this is where the whining ends, and the magic begins. The eggplant is one of the best versions of this classic you'll see anywhere. The ravioli are spectacular, and even the use of truffle oil (hideous misnamed science experiment). The cherry dessert is meh, but the clafoutis as good an interpretation as I've had the pleasure to eat. The wine list is all over the place, literally, and pretty pricey. Nevertheless, all this and the excellent sandwiches are worth the wait. And you will wait. It's a very leisurely service pace. Settle in, there's a French chef at work.

Pistou is situated at the bottom end of King Street in bustling Newtown. It’s a great spot because you can find parking a lot easier and you are somewhat removed from the loud and sometimes drunken goings on further up the road. The venue is super cozy and the atmosphere is really inviting. The staff are just amazing and we were served by the super friendly Ash and Rob. Both knew their stuff when it came to wine and the food on offer. We opted for the feed me menu and our cheese hesitant diner was very kindly catered for. The food was stunning and there was more than enough to satisfy any appetite when it came to portion size. The stand out dish for me was the steak tartare. The freshest and most premium beef with a beautiful selection of accompaniments including truffle that just set this dish apart! We had such a good evening and I would recommend Pistou to anyone wanting a relaxed evening with great food and easy attentive service.

Pistou-ff. $240 not well spent.

A friend booked a group of us a table for lunch. Once we were shown the menu we discovered there was hardly anything the pregnant member of our group could eat, along with some other dietary requirements. So we discussed changing restaurants and one member of our group talked to a staff member who said it was OK for us to leave, so we did. But as we were leaving... Another staff member (manager of deception) hails down the last 3 of the group and says she normally charges a $40 cancellation fee per person... But that she would "waive the fee for us this time". So thankful and apologetic for the inconvenience we left... HOWEVER about 10 minutes later she called back, changed her mind and said she IS going to charge us the cancellation fee if we didn't return... after we had already left the area and moved on to another venue!

Sorry, but you can't say one thing then change your mind later after we've all left. Otherwise we would've called our other party members back and made it work somehow. But saying you won't charge us, then go back on your word and charge us unless we return (after we've already left the area) is petty and criminal.

------ Follow up to their response... Their claim this falls within their booking terms is a complete lie. We turned up for our booking and didn't cancel. We asked before doing anything and multiple people said we could leave. The manager clearly said she wasn't going to charge a 'cancellation fee'. She's lied and denied this in a reply to another review. Very scummy people and are just out to take your money in any way possible, while they claim they're trying to give you an 'experience to remember',...

Extremely disappointed by the lack of decency and hospitality of this restaurant.

Sitting down with a group booking of 6 people and reviewing the menu, there wasn't anything a pregnant friend could eat including other dietary restrictions. Another friend spoke to the waiter and said it was okay for us to leave. On the way out another person behind the bar questioned why we were leaving and we explained whilst also being apologetic. We weren't going to have a meal where someone couldn't eat anything whilst the other did. She said they usually charge a $40 cancellation fee per person but agreed that they wouldn't charge on this occasion. So the group left and went to another venue better suited.

She then called back 10 minutes later to say that she will charge the $40 per person unless we came back ... a complete about turn. We had already left. We had already gone somewhere else, and still there was no food there our pregnant friend could or would eat.

$240 for no food, no service and complete rudeness and pettiness. Also given this is a popular restaurant and given they were busy and had apparently 'turned people away' that the table would have been filled in no time. Deceitful and petty double dipping for extra cash.

I would not recommend or even suggest this place to anyone. I would actively tell people to avoid...
