The food tasted great and presented well. The ramen had great deep flavour. The karaage chicken bento and sashimi bento tasted great, but we would have loved having some sushi as well, as is common. The kids loved the deep fried lotus chips!

The service was purposeful and efficient, but lacked warmth and friendless.

The restaurant is fitted out nicely, with tables inside and outside.

Ordering through iPads was convenient and easy, with a good menu system and clear pictures of each dish. However, we were surprised to be told that we had to put through one order and we couldn't do it sequentially, which we thought was one of the benefits of such a tool.

We were also surprised that our group of 10 was crammed around a round table, despite the restaurant being half empty when we arrived. Our request to use an additional 2-seat table alongside were refused and we were told 12 people could sit on the bench seat around part of that table, so 10 was no problem. I'd suggest this would only be possible for the thinnest, smallest people only - we could only manage 8 on that seat (being 2 adults and 6 children). We had to place 2 additional seats on the other side of the table between the round table and the 2-seat table we had requested to use to accommodate the 2 dads. We had to create a bit of room to physically sit on those chairs located between the tables, which the hosts twice closed on us such that the 2-seat table was pressed into the back of our friend. When our food arrived, it was a struggle to fit the trays and food onto the table. I'm not sure what would have happened if we had brought two more guests.

Another fun thing that happened was a fire alarm went off during our meal. Despite the alarm loudly blaring, "Evacuate! Evacuate!" and some worried looks from guests, there was no alarm or encouragement from the hosts to move their customers to safety. Fortunately it was a false alarm, so perhaps they face this issue frequently and were familiar with this not...

One of my favourite spots in Sydney to get ramen! The staff here were also so friendly and the service was quick ☺️ My favourite

Tonkotsu broth is made from pork bone which is a high-concentration soup that is made over 2 days on high heat over 8 hours. This place makes their signature broth at the shop - EVERY DAY. There are 4 different types of ramen on the menu. Original Black with original mar oil made from garlic and onions Red with original anchovy red paste, Miso blend of four miso

My favourite dishes here were:

🍜 Tonkotsu Black: The broth itself is creamy and milky with umami-rich consistency. It’s hearty, savory base with subtle sweetness and depth. The addition of garlic oil introduces a robust, aromatic element, adding a slightly spicy and nutty dimension that complements the broth’s richness. The ramen noodles are chewy and firm, absorb the flavors nicely.

🥢Spicy Tsukemen: The noodles are thick and chewy, similar to the texture of udon. They are served separately from the dipping sauce, allowing them to retain their texture. The dipping sauce is the star of the show, bursting with a complex blend of flavors. It combines savory and rich umami notes of a pork broth, with a spiciness that adds a fiery kick. The spiciness is balanced by tangy and slightly sweet undertones. I really liked the pieces of soft pork.

🐤 Chicken Katsu Don: Chicken x Kewpie Mayo combination can never go wrong!! The chicken katsu had a crunch on the outside with juicy, tender meat inside. There is a side of kewpie mayo on top to complement the katsu! This is all layered over a bed of steamed white rice, which serves as a neutral backdrop that balances the flavors. This set also comes with salad, seaweed, edamame...

Speedy, friendly and attentive service. Despite the rainy weather on a weeknight, there was a steady stream of customers but we were well attended to.

Food was fresh, tasty and sat well despite my eyes ordering more than my stomach needed.

The mozzarella sticks were wonderfully light and perfect combination of crunchy crisp outside wrapping around soft melted centre.

The yuzu shio coriander ramen in a light but flavorful broth combined all my favourite elements in an unusual combination which works very well without any heavy feeling after. My son thought the miso ramen option for the chicken katsu was a great choice, too.

I ordered a set with small salmon teriyaki rice which was delicious but I seriously couldn’t fit it all in so the friendly waitstaff offered a takeaway container. We shared two zundo signature juices (pineapple mint crush and lychee yuzu crush). Both were a nice offset to the savory dishes.

We finished off with 3 ice cream flavors - matcha, black sesame and hojicha (roasted green tea). All were delicious: not too sweet, the taste strong enough to get the essential flavour. If they’re had been a Japanese-style ice coffee (without cream or ice cream) to go with it, I would have definitely ordered one.

We will certainly return again soon! Thank you for a lovely...

We had dinner at Ramen Zundo Chatswood around 7:30pm on a Sunday evening and were pleased to be seated straight away without waiting, which is rare in Chatswood’s busy food scene. The restaurant has a relaxed, casual vibe, and the ordering system is self-service through QR code at the table, which makes it quick and easy once you get used to it. The menu offers a wide range of choices beyond ramen—Japanese curry, rice bowls, udon, and even a kids’ menu—so it’s very family-friendly. Portion sizes are generous and the dishes come out promptly. The ramen itself is rich and flavorful, with the kind of comforting taste you’d expect from a good Japanese eatery. Service staff were friendly and available when needed, even though most things are done through the self-ordering system. Do note that there is a 10% surcharge on public holidays, which is common in Sydney but good to be aware of before visiting. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience: efficient service, tasty food, and enough variety to suit both kids and adults. Ramen Zundo Chatswood is a reliable option for a satisfying Japanese meal, and I’ll definitely come back to explore more of the menu.
