30/08 - On our second visit, we ordered Hot Chilli Live Fish ($39) with steam rice.

The food was very good in portion (more than enough for 2, I think 3 people could share the dish), spicy level 3, lot of red chillies (appreciated the waiter proposing to scoop some so it would get easier for us to take the fish). I would give it a 4.5 if i could find any scope of improvements, as I could not, I would give it a 5.

They even gave us bigger plates this time (which i disliked previously and mentioned in the previous review). Our total bill was $48, although i think it is pricy but I am highly satisfied by everything. Great Job!!

First Visit: An authentic Sichuan restaurant, located in a convenient location. Nothing to complain about, good staff, food came within 10 minutes of placing order, staff were good as well.

We ordered:

Hot Pot Beef ($28) - 4/5. Although it looks / sounds extremely spicy it was bearable. Beef was tender, soaked in a lot of flavour.

Deep Fried Chicken Dices with hot dry chilli ($24.5) - 4/5. I was hesitating a bit before ordering but it was of surprise and definitely better than what i expect. The fried chicken dices were flavoursome and the overall dish was fiery.

We ordered rice with these 2 dishes and seemed perfect as one item was saucy and the other was more spicy, this was a good balance in order. Portion was good as well.

I only wish they gave us bigger plates, the plates were so tiny that i needed to refill my rice bowl atleast 5 times and more, which also means the food was good. Although i feel food was pricy, but I’d recommend a visit here when your taste bud is craving some...

Unfairly service.

Red chilli BYO mean:

Own BYO license but Not allow for beer and drinks.

Double standard!

Yesterday my friend and I went to red chilli restaurant chatswood for dinner and we ordered beer at the beginning, but were told there was no stock available. So I went outside and bought zero-degree beer and ale pale. When I got back to the restaurant, staff told us couldn't BYO because something unpleasant had happened to other guests who had been drunk before. So we ordered two beers we didn't like. About half an hour later, another group of customer opened their GIN and began to drink. I asked the same female staff why they could quote the gin and drinks they had brought, and the she informed the guests, but they didn't follow. After another 10 minutes, we found that female staff who told us we could didn't manage it, so we opened our non-alcoholic beverages. Just opened and didn't start drinking, the restaurant manager came over and told us NOT ALLOW BYO. But I told him that another group of guests were quoting gin and drinks, and he told us that the restaurant allowed BYO, but only spirits and wine, not including beer and soft drinks, but I told him that another group of guests were also quoting soft drinks, and the restaurant manager was very unhappy to tell us that this was Australian regulation. But I've done research where BYO includes beer, spirits and wine and charges $1.5-30. We felt it was a very bad dining experience and not being...

Do remember check your bill before you pay!!! They charged us more money for the things we didn't order or had. I went back to ask for the money back. They did give me the money but with very cold attitude and no appologies at all. As a person who lived in Chengdu for 6 years, what I wanna say is the food was average.

If you don't care about the service and you are not after quality Sichuan food. You can go.

The restaurant questioned my review, here is the reply:

Me and my partner had our dinner at 14/12. We sat at the table next to the window. We ordered 4 dishes and two deserts as well. I checked the receipt while organizing my wallet at 17/12. Then I noticed they charged us three rice (only 2 people)and tea (we didn't have tea)as well. The first thought is “forget it”. It's only $4.5. But then I remebered the review I saw before I went there. It said they just charged the tea no matter you have it or not. This is just so dishonest. I went shopping at chatswood the next day(18/12). I went to get the money back around...

This restaurant is located on the 1st floor and will need a hike up a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. It is directly opposite one of the parking entrances of Chatswood Chase. It isn't too far of a walk from the train station and closer to some of the bus stops. The decor reminds me of restaurants in China. Especially, the rosewood tables and chairs. From a food perspective, it is ok. The chilli oil fish tastes different to other eateries in the area and is not spicy but has a lot of spices. When the staff first bring the dish, they will scoop out the dried chillies out for easier access to the fish and veges. They provide the option of Basa fish or black fish. The option of black fish doubles up the cost of the dish. Recalling my previous visits, I think I preferred this dish at this restaurant better back then than now. This will be on my maybe list to go to again. Wont be rushing back anytime soon.

Actually despite my lack of ability to eat spice, I really enjoyed this experience! The dishes that I did try were impeccable, full of flavour and very delicious. I def recommend their noodles, they were the high light of the meal for me. Actually my mum fell in love with the crayfish dish. I think they use fresh/local seafood because our friends noted that the crayfish has been bigger last time they were here. I assume this variation is size is normal given the seasonal nature of fresh seafood. All in all, impeccable service with delicious authentic Sichuan food, right in the heart of Chatswood - I really couldn’t ask for more! (Although next time I might bring along some milk)
