SpitRoast on Sutherland — Restaurant in Sydney

What a shame this place has gone to the dumps. I worked in Sutherland for over a decade and ate there frequently up until a couple of years ago.. The food and service was always good. I went there tonight with friends as it had been a while. We drove 40 minutes from where we live to eat at Spit Roast and was disgusted with the pathetic customer service and quality of food that we received. The chicken burger was tasteless, chips were cooked in dirty oil and were soggy but looked burnt hence the dirty oil comment. The top ove the bun was burnt … like what the hell. I think that was the first red flag sign that something was wrong. The salad was crap which lacked flavour and had to ask for dressing. Go figure how someone can stuff up salad? The chicken was soft and moist but had no flavour… not even salty. The order was mucked up, tables and floor dirty, chair broken. Obviously they don’t understand what the cuisine is meant to taste like and sell horrible, tasteless food to customers. I was really embarrassed that I suggested to go there for dinner as everyone commented how terrible the food was. Even the gravy tasted strange. There is a reason why there are a number of Spit roast stores but this one is truly ruining their reputation. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND I WILL NEVER RETURN!

P.S I don’t want the owner to reply with their “ sorry for your unsatisfactory experience “ crap. You and your store need to be shut down and I personally don’t care what you have to say, i’m a long time customer and have eaten chicken and chicken burgers for a very long time. The service and food I received tonight was disgraceful.

Edited: I am a long time customer and an avid food reviewer with years of hospitality experience. Like your other reviews stipulated, your attitude and service stinks. I wish I took photos of my food for evidence but there is no need as your response says it all. Regardless of your CCTV footage or betting with people. No need to prove to customers when they are clearly dissatisfied. Good luck as obviously you have no idea about appropriate customer service and food quality standards. Maybe go try other chicken shops in Sydney with decent reviews and compare it with the rubbish you currently serve. I recommend trying Flame Coal chicken in South Hurstville. Get yourself a chicken burger combo and 1/4 chicken. Try it...

They have good food - but just be very careful if you have any food allergies. Multiple occasions the staff have been unable to answer what is in their food (in my case gluten) and most recently the staff member looked at me in confusion as he didn’t know what gluten was. Just a warning to others who may be in a similar situation

Hello,

When I asked your staff is there gluten in any, the male staff member looked at me confused and then the female spoke up and told me everything is gluten free. I looked and her and I said that can’t be possible because there’s pasta in multiple and one of them also has croutons. I believe that is when you stepped in and started to tell me a few were gluten free, however at this point I didn’t trust it as it seemed that all staff were unaware of what gluten was so I decided to not get anything to be safe.

Additionally - Last week I was there and a lady had asked if your burgers had any dairy in them - your staff member looked at her confused and just started telling her what veges ect were in it, and did not answer her question. I could see she was visibly frustrated at the answer.

It just seems to me most staff are unaware of what is in the food, and it seems some staff don’t even know what gluten is. As someone who is coeliac, it is really disappointing going somewhere where staff aren’t educated on food allergies as it is impossible to make a decision for my health. Possibly something to have a chat to them about...

A few things,

The women at the front are weird man. I can't explain it. Just super weird with people in general when they are serving, like they don't know how to interact with people at all. There is one woman who just looks at you with disgust(Does she know that the food has had cockroaches running around on it) 🤷🏻‍♂️

The venue itself is absolutely disgusting!! Big and little cockroaches are everywhere. Mouldy silicone between the glass and the counter where the vegetables are. Their rubbish bins do not have lids and are next to customers tables and infront of the hot food. The floor is the worst. Yuck yuck yuck

Food safety services need to get in there and do something. I'm sure people are eating food that has had cockroaches running around on it and mould 🤮
