I love this restaurant - their food is delicious. But I loved it a little more when they didn’t skyrocket their prices for no good reason. A year ago prices were within reason but not anymore. I’ll start off with something small...prawn chips...OK...we all know that prawn chips are CHEAP AF and at any Chinese restaurant are no more than $2 - some places give them for free. So why are they almost $4 here at Cammeray Chinese? Secondly - Won Ton soup...$8.50 for a standard sized small bowl (you know the one - it’s not that big and it’s a soup which is literally mostly water.) Spring rolls...$9.50. That’s more expensive that the Sky Phoenix Yum Cha in the city. This is all adding up. Let’s dive even further...6 Peking Duck pancakes...$42.90?? Wahhh? OK surely it can’t get worse...wait a second...$18.90 for a VEGETABLE OMELETTE? It’s veggies and eggs. For $25 I can get a 200g rump steak cooked to perfection at Meat & Wine Co in the city near the harbour. We are in Cammeray. I might expect this from a classy Chinese restaurant with fresh seafood in tanks ready to serve and Chinese music and Chinese decor...even with professional waitstaff... but this is a restaurant which doesn’t have stunning decor or much Chinese ambience at all - their food is tasty - but they don’t have any professional waitstaff (they appear to be a family run business) and so if they’re trying to make more money by hiking up the prices unreasonably then they’re probably shooting themselves in the foot. If that is the issue then they should move to a smaller location, less rent (they are NEVER full and mostly do takeaway orders from what I’ve seen.) I am assuming that what we are paying for when we go to this restaurant is their high rent. I understand this. But this hike in price has not made me want to order again. The portions are not generous they are average and adequate. So why more $$$$?? What SHOULD be a casual family restaurant has become a ‘treat’ with prices comparable to restaurants in The Rocks and the city. I can get the classic Mongolian Lamb anywhere and for much less than the $25.80 they’re charging. Start adding rice and one of their $9 or $10 standard entrees and you’re looking a a meal that’s like $45-$50 for one person!. Lee’s Fortuna Court around the corner in Crows Nest is bigger, serves fresh seafood from the tank, actually LOOKS like a Chinese restaurant AND it’s cheaper. Every single dish they have is cheaper. Cammeray Chinese is absolutely delicious but at the end of the day your experience there is nothing special and it’s not value for money anymore - they should move to a smaller location and focus on amazing food at...
Read moreTHEY HAVE STOLEN MY MONEY. BEWARE they took my money and didn’t deliver the food! I ordered from menu log.
1 hour after I ordered I called the restaurant The girl said they were really busy and promised to check on the status of my order, assuring a call back.
Second Attempt (25 minutes later): No call back received, so I called again, providing my food order number again. • The girl stated she was busy, didn't know the status of my order, and promised another call back. Third Attempt (30 minutes later): Again, she said she was busy, Again, I said I am happy to wait, I just need to know if I should wait? She said she doesn’t know and,
She put another lady on: This lady also repeated that they were busy and will call back, I then repeated what I said to the last girl. She got frustrated with the questions and snapped at me, and said she was too busy and said that she will call me back, I apologised for my sense of urgency for an answer but I just don’t want to be left waiting and wondering, it been almost 2 hrs. Again, she promised to check and call back, but did not provide any further information.
Fourth Attempt (20-30 minutes later, over two hours): I called twice and the calls rang out, unanswered, leaving me without information on the status of my order.
Cancellation of Order: Frustrated and hungry, after nearly two and a half hours of waiting, I reluctantly cancelled my order.
I have been waiting for a refund (just over $80 and $10 delivery) I understand the challenges of a busy restaurant, but the lack of communication and resolution in this situation was highly disappointing. Despite my willingness to wait for my order or cancel it, I received no...

Small, stylish and approachable restaurant located inside Cameray Plaza. Open for lunch and dinner and you can get wine and beers with your meals.
My partner is a coeliac so we are stringent to avoid places that do not understand cross contamination. We were met with the lovely owner who walked us through what she could do to accommodate his needs. Most things can genuinely be made GF!
What followed was fresh tasting (no sense of the MSG thirst afterwards), nicely presented food. We were lucky to come on a quiet night where they could accommodate making GF honey chicken (best to call ahead and make sure they can do it when you intend to come).
Not your neighbourhood "classic" Chinese but more of an upmarket, modern and allergy...
