Let me start by saying that I rarely give negative reviews but this place just didn't get a lot right today. After the first waitress said she would give me a minute to look at the menu, she never returned. After a very long wait (about 20 mins) a second waitress eventually took my order... I ordered a strawberry smoothie, Lisbon Benedict (with added Chorizo) and a Portuguese tart. After another VERY long wait (at least another 30 mins) I saw my meal get delivered to a different group sitting nearby, until the waitress realised the error and took it back from them to bring to me. The strawberry smoothie did arrive during the wait for food, but was very small and quite ordinary tasting. Not very impressed and certainly not worth $9. It would have been nice to have had it with the food, instead of it being nearly finished by the time the food arrived. When the Benedict finally arrived I was underwhelmed. I can appreciate that an eggs Benedict is a classic dish and that some restaurants try to mix it up and put their own spin on it by varying the standard eggs Benedict formula , but this $24 benny was literally two (almost) poached eggs sitting on a circular hash brown and a $9 slice of chorizo, with a drizzle of hollandaise over it. No bread. No spinach. Just a sad looking pile of nearly cooked eggs. While it was tasty enough, it was ridiculously expensive for what it was, and in my opinion was too far from what one should expect when ordering eggs Benedict. I need to point out that the Chorizo was $9 extra. So had I not ordered that, the "Benedict" would have been a hash brown and a couple of eggs. Not impressed again. After another wait, I reminded the waitress that I'd ordered a Portuguese tart, and she said she would bring it. She didn't. I waited for a bit longer, and eventually got up to pay, pointing out that the Portuguese tart never arrived and asked that it be removed from the bill. She happily removed it after asking if I wanted to take it away instead. I did not. While she was cheerful enough, she didn't seem to care too much that it had been a slow, error filled dining experience, and simply said "oh well, too late to fix it now". The whole bill came to $46, for a substandard smoothie and Benedict, and a public holiday service charge. I was surprised when she told me the total price and initially though there must have been a mistake, but no. It was just expensive. I wouldn't have minded paying that much if the service and food deserved it, but in this case they did not. (Well, I would have minded a little bit...$46 for a simple breakfast for one person is still ridiculous) Needless to say, I don't imagine this is somewhere I'll be...
Read moreIâm in two minds about this place.
On the one hand, the food was phenomenal. On the other hand, there was not much communication going on between the staff.
After waiting to be seated (my date said he booked a table but I canât confirm that) we waited outside for 10 minutes in the rain before being seated at the bar because all the tables were taken.
After 10 minutes we were asked if we wanted to order coffee and we ordered 1 x small soy latte and 1 x large latte. When the coffee came, it was one small flat white, and one large flat white, both with normal milk.
No big deal, theyâre not that different, and as Iâm not lactose intolerant I chose to just drink the regular milk flat white anyway as did my date.
We also asked for menus to order lunch as it was 1pm at this point.
It took 20 minutes to get a menu, and then another hour for our order to be taken. I wish I was exaggerating. We probably could have gotten attention of the waitstaff if we tried harder but after a couple failed waves we just decided to see how long it would be.
We ordered the banana soufflé pancakes for me, and the breakfast burger for my date. Wait for food was ~half an hour, which is fine because it was busy.
After half an hour someone tried to bring us something, I donât remember but it definitely wasnât a burger or the soufflĂ© pancakes. So they apologised and came back with the breakfast burger and fruit/nut bread. I said I had ordered the pancakes and the poor waitress was distraught.
About another 10 or so later the pancakes arrived.
The food is great, the coffee is good, itâs nicely refurbished. The staff were polite, but we did ask for our order to be read back to us when we were paying just to make sure we were paying for the right bill đ
We ended up staying for 3 hours (partially due to us chatting, mostly due to the multiple mix-ups).
Iâd recommend: as long as youâre...
Read moreBrekky plate 3.5/5, an uncomplicated dish cooked expertly letting the fresh ingredients shine and speak for themselves, rather than trying to further embellish its players. A healthy one comprising of quinoa poached eggs kale avo feta mushrooms cherry tomatoes w (added) prosciutto. Take the kale for eg, very lightly oiled, wilted just enough to make it slightly crispy without actually trying to âdissolveâ it into oblivion.
Double macc has a light body, not too earthy, a wee tinge of acidity w a smooth lightly creamy finish. Served at the correct temp for you to drink right away.
The (pulled) beef cheeseburg 2.75/5, was tasty but could not escape the common affliction of most pulled brisket; being too dry. As this was a takeaway, nothing i could not remedy.
As the venue resembles a long narrow alley with wall on one side n counter table (w open view to the street), coming here w grps of 4 might present a wee of a prob. Those tables flushed on the wall side are small and set for 3âsome. Now 3âsome can be fun depending on your chosen activity. Long story short, if you are a party of more than 2, your only viable choice is to sit in a row at the counter, unless you fancy sitting in a nook sofa at one end of the alley. The other end is occupied by the cashier kitchen n storage.
Which could mean they focus on a niche market as reflected by their narrow focus in their...
