The Welcome Hotel in Rozelle is a gorgeous back street corner pub, tucked away from the main drag. It's where locals go. It's got a front bar, a dining room and a courtyard out back. Something for everybody.
The menu is extensive, way bigger and more adventurous than your average pub. They offer three cuts of steak: a 300g rump, a 250g sirloin, and a 400g porterhouse. We ordered the 250g sirloin. No mash option offered, so we ordered some 'Paris mash' as a side, which was nothing like genuine Paris mash, if we're being honest.
The steak was good, although nowhere near their claimed 250g. The mash was not as creamy as Paris mash should be and the chicken gravy ruined it. Good mash doesn't need gravy, it just needs the meat accompaniment. Easy.
Whilst the food was good, not great, but good, the front bar itself is an absolute gem. It's cosy, has a ton of tap beer options, and has a nice deep bar top - perfecting for sitting at and leaning on. And they had AFL on the TV. Result!

Read moreA group of us who dine out regularly came to the Welcome restaurant to try their Sunday lunch degustation menu. I have to so all in all it was disappointing. At best some dishes scampi, oysters and fish were average. The service was good however it was the food that let this place down. For $75 we should have asked for our money back. The zucchini flowers stuffed with some kind of cheese were tasteless and the same goes for the carpaccio. Our bill came to around $165 per head which the restaurant happily took, let me just say we were jolly but certainly not aggressively or dangerously drunk, not in the slightest however because we did not leave a generous tip although we did tip a little, but I'm sure because of this we were refused service in the bar area. I thought this was outrageous. For those interested we walked down the road to another bar where they were happy to serve us and where we spent the next couple of hours. In short, save your money and do not dine...
Read moreOne of those gems you find on the fringe of Sydney CBD where the historical pub meets the modern day cuisine. I walked in and felt I was greeted by a piece of Rozelle/Balmain history, just so inviting and gorgeous. You get the feeling the reason they have survived for so long is that people love this pocket of history surrounded by such warmth and character. The food choices are great with a selection from the pub menu offering burgers, steaks and seafood to the quaint and welcoming restaurant with a sumptuous selection of fine italian dishes. The staff are warm and welcoming and as I've been told by them, they love the management who they praise as decent, respectful and encouraging. That in itself tells you what a wonderful place this is to dine, enjoy and have fun. I love this pub! I highly recommend this place for a lazy weekend lunch and drink including dinner. Say Hi to Lilly the Italian waitress,...
