Darlings Bistro — Restaurant in Sydney

I visited your café with my husband two weeks ago. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted, given water, and handed menus, and our orders were taken quickly. However, we experienced a long delay in receiving my coffee, which had been prepared but left sitting on the counter while staff were conversing. During this time, other customers were also waiting to have their orders taken.

My husband ordered a toastie, and while it was being prepared, I noticed one of the staff members coughing repeatedly into her hands before handling the food without washing them. She also lifted the top of the toastie and touched it directly, which I found very unhygienic.

On a positive note, the food itself was enjoyable — I ordered the avocado on toast, which was very nice. However, I did feel that some of the staff displayed a harsh attitude, appearing disengaged and uninterested when I enquired about my coffee or other items. Great local cafe on busy strip of Rozelle’s main shopping precinct. Plenty of cafe competition & from memory this place has been around for some time. Had late breakfast on a sunny Wednesday in early summer.

Ordered quickly & easily, sat outside on the high table with stool seating. Menu is solid & plenty of cafe favourites, you can’t go wrong & I’ve tried a number of things across different visits. Service was great: smiles, checked all was ok, swift & easy with a warm farewell on leaving.

Had eggs benny with bacon & a fresh juice. The juice was iced & hit the spot, the benny was quality with wilted spinach & pretty much textbook poached eggs. Hollandaise creamy & generous, bacon nice & dropped salt/pepper with it. Side note but seems you need to ask for salt/pepper at most eateries these days, not here though.

Decor & set up is decent, nothing too exciting. However, the food (really nice), menu (broad & reasonably priced), service (warm & swift) make it a top of mind breakfast or lunch...

The staff are not friendly and rude. The staff was taking my order when she went away, leaving me at the counter. I was surprised and thought what was going on. The manager came over. He asked me which type of chai latte do I want: powered or something else which I cannot remembered. He took a jug of chocolate and show me it is powered chai latte. The staff laughed at him for showing me chocolate instead of chai latte power. When I asked him what is he doing? He was upset and said I should be nice. I walked out of the cafe and never to go there again.

Referring to your reply. It is Darlings Bistro. The person who showed me the chocolate instead of chai latte powder was a male staff. You do not have the graciousness to look into the matter and improve. No wonder there are so many 1-star and 2-star reviews. The review for your food is terrible too. I will not recommend your cafe or go to your cafe again. Other cafes in the area offer better food...
