Two Deers cafe — Restaurant in Sydney

While shopping in Burwood today with my daughter, we walked past Two Deers Cafe and the colourful array of delicious looking petite fours in the display window, along with seeing High Tea cake tiers led us to the unfortunate decision to have lunch here before leaving.

The $70 charge for a small menu offering of 6 petite four, 1 savoury option and a scone each, was quite steep however the visual display of cakes made me think it would be worth it.

It was not! The sweet selection we were given were of the poorest quality, two of the cold, spongy items were so bad I had to spit them out - they were not an edible flavour! The savoury option we chose was the "chicken lollipops" which I didn't exactly know what they would be, but I was expecting something a little bit nicer than the fatty, deep fried chicken wings/drumsticks we were given. If they were written honestly as "chicken wings" on the menu, I would not have chosen them as I'm not keen on eating fatty small bits of meat off bone, least of all with a $70 price tag attached. The small fruit bowls served with this offering contained bruised fruit that was clearly not fresh. The scones were the only decent part of the entire High Tea offering and even they were subpar, again for that price tag. I've had High Tea at a range of establishments and can honestly say steer clear of this one. The quality of food you receive is not at all worth paying $70 for. As we didn't try their other meal options, my review is not saying to avoid this cafe altogether, but definitely don't waste your money on the inedible "High Tea". This should be scrapped from the menu altogether or you need to vastly improve...

Ordered a takeaway coffee which was quite decent so came back a few hours later for a take-away.

I wish I didn't come back to the Two Deers Cafe.. Unfortunately there was a combination of poor communication and rude kitchen staff.

I ordered a "ham and cheese toastie, takeaway". I specifically remembered because I asked the girl "do you do ham and cheese?" She said "yes we do". I said "great, I'll get a ham and cheese toastie"

The kitchen staff who was making it placed it in an open, round cardboard box on the other side of the kitchen. When I waved to say I am waiting in the "pick up your order" side, he proceeded to roll his eyes and bring it over.

It was an open box and as it was a takeaway order, I asked if I could have a lid for the container or something to cover it. He shrugged and goes I have some tissues, I reached out to take some but he put it back the tissues and then said "ask the counter". I then looked at my "ham and cheese toastie" and realised it was only a cheese toastie.

The kitchen staff goes "THAT is what you ordered" and bought me the ticket. The ticket said cheese only. In the end, the staff member at the counter was very friendly and apologised but at the end of the day, poor service, I didn't get what I ordered, they didn't offer to fix and there was zero...

I visited Two Deers Cafes we the weekend for their Christmas High tea set and it exceeded my expectations. The food, presentation and service was amazing! I shared this meal with 3 other girls and it was more than enough for us- even some left over!! Definitely recommend this for a group to go and enjoy for Christmas and NY!!!
