I too have eaten many a pizza in Italy, and it's different depending where you go. While Italians do try to diversify pizza, it's only up to a point. The problem with most pizza is that only the bits between the cheese and the sauce are changed and the bread is pretty much 85% of the quality. Boring. While the pizza was wet and did lack toppings, I appreciate the effort to try and make pizza less boring. The crab pizza is a perfect example. The sauce is infused with crab (I'm assuming the shells were roasted and then stewed in the sauce and strained), which gave it a strong crab flavour, but had very little actual crab. For what is basically sauce with bread, $32 is steep, but I won't deny the flavour was definitely tasty. I didn't like the garlic and honey, the sharpness of the garlic didn't seem to combine with the honey, and I think there was too much honey in any case, overpowering the cheese as well. But each to their own, one of the people I ate it with did like it a lot. I thought the chilli was sufficient, the sauce well flavoured again, though the salami was cut as thinly as possible. I thought the chilli was a decent amount for an Italian pizza. I don't think I have a single relative in Italy that would have thought it wasn't hot enough. Yes, some of the pizzas can get quite oily. The bread is a good quality, without being the best I've had (I have my own wood fired oven, and I think the bread I make, very slowly proofed, is a little better) The waitress was really nice too, good service. So while I think the flavours were great, I also think it was overpriced for what you got, and I suspect that is part of the business plan. I would visit again, but wouldn't buy any of the higher prices pizzas. I'm split between 3 and 4 stars, so I would have given it a...
ย ย ย Read moreWestwoodNewtown sure stole a pizza my heart. I'm currently still dreaming about this garlic, honey cheese pizza we had over the weekend. ๐คค๐คค๐คค This tiny little shop seats probably 10ppl max but due to its popularity, most people end up doing takeaway and eating at a nearby park - what a vibe! It's easy to see why the wait for these could take up to an hour during prime dinner hours.
While they only have about 7 pizzas on the menu, each pizza has a distinct, drastic flavour profile from each other. The crust is soft, yet chewy and the toppings are fullllll of flavour. You really can't fault it.
๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ, ๐ต๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ was our ULTIMATE favorite -- simple, with a subtle sweetness and salty tang from the cheese; such a great classic twist. Legit, one of the best I've ever had. ๐ง๐ง๐ง
๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฎ (not usually my go-to) took me by surprise was another favourite from our group - although I did find the toppings a bit too oily and drippy.
'๐ก๐ฑ๐๐ท๐ฎ was surprisingly spicy but balanced well with the onions and ricotta cheese. To be honest, I only recently found out what 'nduja was, and now I can't get enough of it!
๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ was another modern classic that totally hit the spot! I did wish that they had another salty element to it.
Overall, 100% would recommend this place if you're down to get your hands dirty. I also heard the owner here use to work at Bella Brutta, another nearby popular pizza joint (in love with their clam pizza!) -- so it's no wonder this place poppin off!! Go check em out soon before the lines...
ย ย ย Read moreWeโve been thinking about dropping in for a while and finally did so over the weekend.
Walk-ins only is how this place operates so getting a table is really luck of the draw, especially if your group is larger than a couple. You must order before you sit, we made a mistake finding a spot while one of us ordered and were prompted back outside (weirdly the told we could go back the table once our butts hit the outside waiting space!).
We ordered a spanner crab pizza and a margarita.
The dough is incredible! Possibly the yummiest Iโve tried recently. I wonder if the tomato sauce base is made on site too - itโs marvelous. 5 stars. My taste buds adored these pizzas.
Im not a huge fan of pizza that I need to fold to maintain its integrity so I can eat it without cutlery (because who wants to eat pizza with a knife and fork!). Westwood pizza slices are sloppy and floppy. Whilst delicious, I always find this off putting.
Thereโs a rage of drinks available, unsure what exactly as the waitress was quite busy and annoyed to walk me through them. I grabbed waters instead.
Weโre so glad we visited and we tried Westwood after wanting to for a while, but weโll continue on our quest to find our favourite pizza. It didnโt hit the mark - maybe our expectations were too high.
Parking - good luck! But...
