I tried this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago through Deliveroo home delivery. The order comprised only two items, the potato and rosemary pizza ($20.00) and a mixed green salad ($10.00).
The potato pizza jumped off the page at me as it’s one of my favourite toppings but of course like anything, dependent on how it’s cooked. It certainly smelled grand and the thinly sliced spuds were encouraging but it was undercooked especially on the other edges of the base and looked rather anaemic.
I think any woodfired pizza benefits from being more than just slightly charred around the edges plus the potatoes could also have done with a bit more colour. I put it under the grill for about 10 minutes, which definitely improved it’s eatability.
Unfortunately the salad was a big disappointment. There was plenty of it but squashed into a too small container and already dressed. Needless to say the leaves didn’t benefit from being crushed but were sort of okay. It also had baby tomatoes which were a revelation - spongy, rubbery and tasteless; in fact I don’t think I’ve ever eaten more unpleasant toms. The dressing was insipid rendering the salad altogether inedible so I added some of my own dressing. But it wasn’t enough to save this overpriced assembly of grass cuttings and konjac sponge.
I was so hoping Woodfired In Out Pizza would turn out to be a gem of a find but on this experience I’d hesitate before ordering again. For sure, you make allowances such as maybe it was an off night but...
However, I don’t know any other pizza place close to me that has potato pizza on it’s menu so I expect this’ll hook...
Read moreWe ordered a few pizzas last week for pick up and was told they would be ready in 20mins (ordered at 7:20). Arrived at 7:45 to pick up, and was greeted by a extremely rude staff member who at first couldnt remember taking my order over the phone, then looked frantically to find the order receipt, then told me that I was early and that I was told over the phone that they'd be ready at 8pm. I mentioned to her that over the phone she told me 20mins which she argued telling me she said 25mins. It was 7:45pm and the pizzas weren't ready. I proceeded to pay and sat down watching the chef do his thing while waiting. The same staff member while helping the chef place toppings on the pizzas decided to make her self at home and throw some prosciutto in her mouth infront of the customers that were in the store. After receiving apologies from the chef, the pizzas where ready at 8pm. At this point the staff member took the boxes to the counter and told me I needed to pay. I looked at her puzzled as I had only paid 15mins ago. She argued that i hadn't paid and I had to pull the receipt out to prove to her that I had paid her. (I could understand if the restaurant was busy but there was a couple and an uber eats driver who walked in after I did) I was hoping the pizzas would make up for the poor service, but Unfortunately they didn't. They were below average, the bases were very burnt and crisp and the pizzas were bland. Definitely will not be going...
Read moreTruth, integrity, perspective. These words meant nothing more to me than the platitudinous catch-cries of my enemies in the religious wars we’ve fought over the past few centuries - until today. Today, these words took on their true meaning and enveloped the very core of my being in a heady glow, because today I visited Woodfired In and Out Pizza. The margherita and truffle pizzas presented as Offering here are true to form, and rival the sacred loaves of Napoli in their integrity to the Eucharist. But it is the Stoic service that brings this place to the helm as my choice of place of worship. There are only a handful of moments in my life that have been so perfect in their insistence on awkwardness. The lady who mans the counter here is the person who brings upon this perfection with her candour and sheer brilliance. She is, without a doubt, the supreme goddess of absolute awkwardness and the most dearly beloved member of the inner western suburbs of Sydney. I must add that the decorum of the place is so tastefully thought out and deserves a medal in its own right. Dine...
