Order takeaways from the ground floor shop or face rough treatment by waiters

S40°46.001' E145°17.915' The restaurant upstairs is a large cafeteria or canteen. This large space has been stripped of any impression. Fast food restaurants do better. Their staff do better than waiters at Hursey Seafoods too. With many small tables available, we asked for a table for two persons. That was not possible. We were instructed to sit at an 8-people table next to the entrance to the toilets. Our objections were answered by indifference. The waiter could not be bothered. In the end, she allowed us to move four chairs, away from the toilets. As punishment for this, she forgot about us at time of ordering. When we understood that we were forgotten, it was difficult to get her attention. Simple, guests must understand that they are entirely dependent on the goodwill and goodness of the waiters.

In the end, we got the chance to order very quickly, and we were not allowed to ask any questions. We did have questions, which increased the irritation level of the waitress even further. Explaining the menu on the blackboard by her was a mystery and the waitress made it clear that we were wasting her precious time. Unsure, we gambled and chose the tasting plate southern rock lobster from the blackboard. This was not the end of the horrible encounter with this waiter. After a while, she announced that the kitchen was out of fish for the tasting plate and asked if we still wanted to order something else. Yes, we did and we wasting more of her precious time we decided on the half small crayfish with chips and salad ($40).

After this rough treatment by the waiter, the half-small crayfish made no impression.

Hursey’s operates a fleet of nine fishing boats and is known for its catches of fish, crabs and southern rock lobster. Hursey Seafood cannot send these waiters out to sea on one of their vessels, because they will violate the rules and regulations concerning the treatment of fish. These rules and regulations do not apply to humans and therefore they are allowed to work in the restaurant. You have...

Ok if you’re looking for a fish shop. Dined in for lunch & not very impressed. Service was not great. Wasn’t busy & order was mixed up. Ordered large half cray whilst other 3 ordered medium. Medium crays we’re larger than the large. Very unimpressive crays as they didn’t appear too fresh. From Victoria, glad for the experience. Will not be back. Attended on 16/3/23 at 12:30pm. Ordered 2 medium 1/2 crays ( mornay sauce), 1 large 1/2 cray (chilli sauce) & fish & chips. 1 medium cray, 1 fish & chips & the large cray was served. When asked where the other medium cray was the waitress disappeared. Several minutes later the plate came out. Nothing was spoken to us as to what or why the plate wasn’t served with the other dishes. Upon inspection of the last dish out it appeared the medium cray was a large ( mornay sauce). At least the sauce was correct. To our dismay we also only received two finger bowls with pliers. The 3rd didn’t arrive. The supposed large 1/2 cray with chilli sauce did in appearance seem smaller than the 2 medium crays. The chilli sauce had very little taste with no heat in it at all. I also took a photo of the dish prior to eating due to the underwhelming size in comparison to the 2 other dishes. Again the supposed large cray had very little meat compared to the other meals & was not appealing to...

Not great. When asked, the staff didn’t say exactly what was in the curry so I ended up leaving it (the curry would have tasted ok I just don’t eat some of the veggies in it so wouldn’t have ordered it had I been told what I was ordering when I asked) and they didn’t serve chips with the fish, even though it says fish and chips on the menu. When asked re the chips they offered to bring a separate serving as an extra option. They ought to have offered a small discount as the dishes ordered didn’t arrive as we were expecting. Not an issue had we not have had a conversation re ingredients prior to ordering. Good job I have no food allergies; staff should know exactly what is in the dishes and clearly tell the customers what is in a dish when asked. I paid to eat pretty much nothing! Staff were friendly and service was speedy but they just looked a bit blank when I told them why I’d not eaten the meal. As it wasn’t 100% my fault the food was left, I think a tiny discount just as an apology for the staff not knowing what’s in a meal would have gone a long way. Sorry but can’t recommend a restaurant that doesn’t know the ingredients as that’s not...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hersey’s Seafood, and honestly, it was one of the best seafood experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about the customer experience, which really stood out. We ordered the grilled barramundi and the prawn skewers, and both were absolutely spot on. The fish was fresh, flaky, and full of flavour, while the prawns were juicy with just the right amount of char. You could tell everything was cooked with care. Even the sides impressed us—the chips were crispy, the salad was fresh, and the house-made tartare sauce was the perfect finishing touch. What also made the experience memorable was how relaxed but refined everything felt. It’s the kind of place where you can go in shorts and thongs or dressed up, and either way, you’ll feel comfortable. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Hersey’s is one of those places you’ll want to come back to. If you’re into fresh, well-cooked seafood with great service and good vibes, I’d highly recommend giving them a try.

Should book on the weekends, gets pretty popular. Also if you want crayfish sashimi apparently needs a two-hour notice which isn't advertised on the menu. We came for the food and not for the service. We had both takeaway fish and chips and sit down dinner. Food is great (except for the oysters). Fish and chips: excellent! The best chips ever. Fish was nicely battered and crispy. Loved the calamari rings and good prawns. Takeaway Oysters: very disappointed... they were disintegrating in their own shells... Dinner food: Beef and cray was excellent, the steak was cooked to perfection. I'm always fearful for overcooked scallops, however the chef has done it well, tender and buttery. Salt & pepper squid was very good but the crispy noodle accompanying it was very weird, not a fan. Dinner service: we had to ask for menus after sitting down for a while, and still didn't receive the drinks menu, ended up grabbing ourselves. The one waitress taking orders never came back to our table so we had to wave down the bar waitress, she was good. Overall, would come back for the food minus the oysters.
