Before going to conquer the intimidating Zigzag Track up to The Nut, stop and fuel up with a wholesome lunch at the humble Touchwood Cafe. Just by sitting down, the presence of local bonds strongly emanates from the servers and their hospitality. Our order arrived in a jiffy and I wished I had taken my time with eating because it vanished before I could relish in how fantastic it was.

The steak sandwich showed why it earned its place on the specials menu with a pile of fresh toppings pinned underneath soft Turkish bread. The perfectly toasted loaf and the bed of spinach was an excellent foundation to absorb the precious juices from the tomatoes and steak. Such careful attention to the composition of the sandwich made each bite compact with bold flavour. Despite the steak being well done, it was surprisingly tender where the meatiness became the pillar for the other accompaniments to stand on. Even their onion rings shine outside of the sandwich and are done the best way you possibly can: Fried crispy thin with a divine caramelised sweetness.

Of course, we couldn't leave Tasmania without having a classic scallop pie and Touchwood put its renown on display. We got the scallop mornay pie that was filled with a creamy ocean of seafood. The small scallops and prawn were so tender that they diffuse into the decadent mornay which could use more cheese. While the top of the pie is light and puffy, the pastry base can be too thick and hard to swallow if not paired with a good amount of filling. It is best that the pie crust remains flaky through and through. But it wasn't just the scallop pie that piqued my interest. The side salad was the most elegant I've seen and tasted gorgeous like its modest looks. Those spirals of beetroot and carrot may be the best scenery that Stanley has been hiding all this time.

Hi

We drove 2hrs to Stanley today what a lovely drive and coastline

We wanted to have a scallop pie for lunch so we went to a the touchwood cafe

We were met with this if you are wanting to eat in hear there is a 25 minute Wait

If you would like a takeaway there is a 5 minute wait

I stood near the counter and the owner said can you not stand there and go and wait in the galley (shop) I thought this was very rude We waited 10 minutes in the galley where I must say every thing in that shop was so over priced !!!

Then another worker came 10 minutes later and took my order for four curried scallop pies take out $57 !!!!

The lady took my card and did not even ask if I would like a receipt

And when she came back I asked if I could have a receipt she said do you need one I replied yes

She never brought me a receipt the shop teller did I think after hearing my request

We eventually got are takeaway and to our surprise found only 3 of the pies were curried one was not

I don’t usually complain but the rudeness and incompetence of this establishment topped with the extortionate prices does not look good...

Absolutely amazing !! I would give 10 stars 😁😋 The service was awesome and so very friendly and the place is Just so cosy. It was busy when we got there and I'm so stoked we managed to get a table for 3 of us. The calamari was soooooo DIVINE and extremely tender. Not oily or hard to chew like what we had a Hurseys the night before. The salad was just enough and that was so mouth watering to. The open chicken burger was so tender and not over loaded with extras. Just right with the filling. Avocado, spinach and tomato and slice of bacon. Fries topped it off nicely. 👍 Don't even go there with the scones ... Oh dear me 🙄😳 soooooo huge and fluffy and they come with ample jam and cream. 😁 Simply the best I've had !! Such an amazing business with the gallery and the accommodation down the side. When ever your in Stanley do stop in and have a meal and coffee.. you won't regret it. The meals are a good size to esp for the prices. Home made is simply the BEST and local . ☺️ Thank you Chris and Gretta and staff . We...

We arrived for a late breakfast at around 11:30am and it was super busy. The ladies at the counter advised us to wait in the front room until a table became available which was only around 10min or so. Eggs on toast and a bacon, cheese, tomato toasty is what we ordered along with our cappuccino and hot chocolate with some chocolate cake. The food was very tasty and the coffee was good. The service was great. Definitely check this place out for breakfast in Stanley
