A little bit pricey for such a short (5min) journey (AUD 19 return, 12 single) but the alternative is a steep walk along the 'zig zag route' which I wouldn't recommend in wet weather. You do get a nice view of Godfrey's Beach on the way up. If you've never been on a chair lift don't worry as the attendants tell you what to do. Do pay attention to the weather though as on the day we went, the forecast was for gale-force winds and the attendant at the top told us she made the decision to shut it down and if that happened, you'd have to walk down even if you had a return ticket. We did the 2km loop around the top and noticed the wind picking up on the western side. When we returned to the chair lift the attendant told us she didn't think the chair lift would still be going in a hour. We had coffee & lunch and the chair lift had been shut down by 1pm. It didn't open at all...

Unique Experience on a Chair Lift, the kids loved it.

The trailhead to walk up the 430m zig zag track is right past the cafe, or you can turn and take the lift like we did.

At the top of the nut you have two ways to take the circuit around the top of it.

If you go left, you’ll see the Rocky Cape Lookout. Choosing this way first meant we went down the sets of stairs in the Plateau Circuit walk versus up them.

There’s a lovely stretch of older forest at the top and there are picnic benches where you can take a break and have a snack if you brought one along.

The ride down was quick and easy too, taking in all the views of Stanley and surrounds, truly incredible.

Parking at the bottom was pretty full when we got there, but still managed to get one of the last spots.

Highly...

Went on this yesterday. Great price, breathtaking views! Very friendly and helpful guy in the gift shop/cafe! Unfortunately blonde haired woman with the concave bob working at the bottom of the lift ruined the experience for us. Absolutely no customer service skills. Hardly spoke to us, was very rude and unhelpful. Didn't help me get my 4yo on and off. Didn't offer instructions about getting on and off. Looked like she hated her job. Need to replace her. Wouldn't recommend. Went on the chairlift in Launceston and the woman there was absolutely wonderful. The friendliest woman we could ask for. Made the experience so much better and...

We came up on the chair lift which definitely saved the calf muscles, it’s a steep walk, especially if you’ve just had a lunch of the areas fine seafood. The chair lift is loads of fun, has great views and relatively cheap for for a little adventure on an old style chair lift bouncing round, exposed to the elements. Highly recommend but if fun. The walk at the top circumnavigates the nut with some very special views in all directions of the compass along the way, it’s mostly exposed has regular seating and although there are some stairs on the fairly Well maintained path it’s an easy walk. Well worth coming up here, a must do if your in Stanly.

Recommended. Chairlift is a great way to avoid walking up the Nut. Once at the top, it was very windy but you do get spectacular views all around the Circular Head (aka The Nut). We hopped on one of the last trips up for the day so we're committed to walking back down. At the top it says walk is short and steep. They are not exaggerating the steep bit. The old joints protested and the next day the calves felt it going down stairs. Still worth it though. The following day had lunch at the The Nut Cafe. Wood burning fireplace going. Extra points. Tasmanian Scallop Pies for lunch, yum and filling. Friendly service. Also recommended.
