Nut State Resere is in Stanley..we are visiting out daughter and son in law in Wynyard. Off to "the Nut" such to "Celebrate" a very personal and super special family birthday.. Firstly however..after our drive we were all hungry and needed fuel in our tummies for the walk to come. Popped into "Touch wood" Cafe and shop for lunch. Beautiful little Cafe with lovely views. Good selection on menus and our Quiche, Steak sandwich, Mushroom Brushetta and Burdee were Delish. Great portions, super fresh and topped off with fab service. Caught the chairlift up. Little chilly but ok.. Beautiful Sunshiney Day. The top of the Nut was a suprise, long way to walk..a large field of long grass clumps and low bush. Designated paths as if go off path may find a snake.. not just any snake but a Tiger...so..stay on path. Our little family journey was to celebrate our "G.G.s" 90th birthday. Well she would have been 90 today.. so we wanted somewhere special and beautiful and a little private to do so. We had brought a few little paper cranes to toss into the wind at a little deck overlooking the ocean.. it was beautiful. Walked around and down, such a beautiful, beautiful bright Sunshiney Day.. Amaxing views 360' views., whilst walking saw an Echidna, a Blue tongue lizzard sunning itself, heard "something " in the scrub.., and at the bottom saw a few Wallaby's. fabulous. The path downwards from the top chairlift station was relatively steep so be prepared. Had a Delicious ice cream at/ from bottom shop and then went home. A really special day for us...

If you are feeling fit take the walkway to the top. I had a family of four and would have heard nothing but complaints getting to the top, so took the lift. Cost $45 for a family of four return. I would advise though you could save yourself a few bucks and only get it one way, which I would recomend. The descent of course is a lot easier. For example we cuaght the chairlift down and a man and his young son started walking down the path. We arrived at the bottom at the same times. The views from the top were fantastic. When we got ther we though we might need our jackets but wasnt the windy and cold as what we expected. The walk at the top was about 45 minute which we did easily with 2 young...

This is great walk if your are in the area. It is steep from the case park to the top. Called the "Zig zag", it is about 450m from the car park to the top. There is a chairlift to the top but where is the fun in that? All paved and some hand rails. Take a bunch rests, enjoy the wonderful views as you go. At the top, there is a walk around the nut. This walk is fairly easy, well marked with some undulation but nothing like getting to the top. Sensational views in all directions. Some interesting facts on the way for kids. Takes about 1 hour all up. Take your time going down. You could easily get a head of steam up on the decline and...

The walking track is very steep but doable. If daunted by the gradient there is an option of a chairlift. Regardless once at the top the walking tracks are well formed and suitable for all fitness levels. Allow about an hour to walk the full circuit and take in all the views and panoramic views. Be warned though the weather can change very quickly on top and it can be very cold. Be prepared. The climb up is 410 metres with and elevation of about 140 metres and the circular track about 2 kilometres. For the health nuts my wife recommends a brisk walk up the Nut, two laps jogging around the top and a steady descent down for a good work out.
