Godfreys Beach Penguin Viewing Platform in Stanley was built to protect the Little Penguins and their breeding colony. There is a sign at the entry gate that visitors need to read and ADHERE to the rules in place to protect the Little Penguins. It is a PWS condition of entry to the colony. By entering, you agree with said conditions/rules. The platform, boardwalk & colony are now under 24/7 video surveilance. These security cameras are fully operational. * DO NOT take your own torch regardless of if it is red or not. LED lights of any colour will affect the Little Penguins eyesight. * READ the sign at the gate entry. It clearly states... no torches, no flashes from phones/cameras. * Penguin Guides WILL be at the viewing platform this breeding season to assist visitors in understanding the importance of the Little Penguins, their habitat, their needs and their care. * The Little Penguins colony is in a wildlife conservation area & they are a protected species. * Respect, care & understanding of the needs and the welfare of the Little Penguins will ensure their survival so future generations can enjoy viewing them also.

5 Stars even though I didn’t see any Little Penguins close up, certainly could see them in the distance and hear the little ones in the bushes all around. The tide was a long way out, and as it was after 10pm, I was under dressed for the evening chill too, I pulled the pin. The platform is an excellent addition and makes viewings very easy, with red lights set up to assist and the helpers were on hand to answer any questions. I did see the Pademelons eating, which was quite cute Next time I’d wait till the tide is in. Penguin photos from Burnie

A nice walk after a good meal a little walk to viewing platform, we waited and we waited and we waited some more! we said we’d stay till 830pm after being there since 7. As we were leaving we could start to hear the young chicks starting to call out then the procession of adults coming from the water was great to sea and hear with a red light torch The viewing platform is just behind the cemetery and while leaving we could still hear the chicks calling out from the cemetery it was really eerie

The experience is wonderful - the penguins are gorgeous. It’s sad to see some people don’t know how to follow the guidelines…the guidelines are there to protect the penguins - you will still see them if you stand quietly and wait…... So please - If you are going to visit the viewing platform - BE QUIET - BE RESPECTFUL - YOU DON’T NEED TO TAKE YOUR OWN TORCHES - NO FLASHES!! Sadly there were people there tonight with red torches shining them directly onto the penguins and following them around. Why????? There’s enough light there for everyone to see. Honestly, if you don’t abide by the guidelines you will ruin this for everyone...
