Let me give some context before diving in. I was invited to Omasa All You can eat for a marketing collaboration to review their food on social media. When I arrived, expecting the reserved table the restaurant had arranged. However, the host led me past four empty tables and seated my crew and me near the washroom at a table which had no lights and was cramped up —despite it being a ‘reserved’ table. I was the only brown person in this restaurant
When I politely asked to be seated at a table, 4 times - the host claimed that all the other tables were ‘reserved.’ This didn’t make sense as I had arrived five minutes before my scheduled reservation. After explaining my request 4 times, that they are tables in the centre of the restaurant and I Would Like to be seated with everyone else, he finally slammed the menu on the table and, with visible frustration, said, ‘Fine, sit there then.’ I was stunned! I asked his age before I Could express myself he said “27” I spoke with him he said “what! I gave you right the table”? I went to Speak to the owner. There was no apology from the staff, and instead, he commented that we were the ‘same race,’ which was both inappropriate and inaccurate—I’m Indian, he Is Asian.
Later, the owner came out, gave a shy smile, and quietly said, ‘He doesn’t know who you are… you’re an influencer.’ This statement itself was problematic. No one should be treated differently because of their profession. So I was disrespected based on my skin colour but will be give Respect based on what I do as a profession :( I believe Respect should be a given.
As I walked out, the waiter actually clapped at my departure. This place has 2 racist male staff members and the self proclaimed “Owner” had no clue how to Manage the staff he definitely is threatened by them too! (Relatives) Unacceptable that this restaurant is allowed to do this in Australia where we have had only great experiences so far! Two elderly gentlemen who were dining there approached me, apologizing on behalf of the restaurant and saying, ‘This is unacceptable behavior.’ I thanked them and left, feeling disrespected and I was shocked by this Incident. This treatment was not only unprofessional but lacked the respect one should expect from any place and a dining experience. This is a joke of a restaurant in the name of Japanese hospitality. I have videos of him deliberately making me walk past the empty tables which I took by chance. Discrimination is wrong, and should never...
Read moreWe have been three times, we had the most fantastic experience on the first two visits, it was exceptional in every way. On our last visit, which was Saturday night 10th of August 7:30 it was different, we didn’t enjoy ourselves like we had previously, we struggled to get attention from the staff in the dining room, 5 of the more than 15 items we ordered we’re overlooked and we had to follow them up. We ordered teriyaki chicken and some steamed rice, but the steamed rice came out quarter of an hour later than the chicken. The venue was moderately busy but not as busy as it was on the two other occasions we’ve been there. Perhaps there was something different in the kitchen on that one night, maybe someone was sick or didn’t show up to work. We also observed for the first time that serving sizes had been reduced, we ordered some prawns and received a plate of just three prawns for two people, this felt odd and not the experience that you would expect when you go to a AYCE, the old serving sizes were much better and we never wasted a thing. Maybe consider letting people optionally choose something for a sample size if it’s food they haven’t experienced before? Ordinarily I would deduct one star for an item that wasn’t great but I don’t want to do this occasion because I can see that the team is trying so hard, we’ve had brilliant experiences on other occasions and I don’t want to harm their otherwise perfect score. I’m going to assume it was a one off.
If you haven’t been yet, please do so, do not be put off by my concerns on just one occasion.
Ps please note that the restaurants merchant fee will be added to your card transaction @ double the rate that the restaurant should be paying. That is the bank profiting from the restaurants customers. (Owner Please note you should be...
Read moreFelt like some Japanese near the area and had heard about this apparent all you can eat Japanese restaurant in what was previously an Italian restaurant.
When we arrived we were told by the very apparent Chinese, not Japanese manager that if we gave them a Google Review, we can get one soft drink per review. Think about that, to give a Google Review before we even sat down let alone ate food, strike one - lost one star instantly. So don't be fooled if you see five star reviews, it just means people don't have the morals and give in to free drinks....
The food itself comes quick, when I say quick, too quick - it remains to be seen behind the kitchen how long said items are sitting around for before being served. When I say quick I mean the sushi is served in a minute - strike two
Now the highlights, although they were few and sparse were the tataki, edamame and some sushi. The rest felt as if it were store brought or cheaply made, which explains the all-you-can-eat.
Annoyingly there is a disclaimer in the menu that if you waste too much food, you incur an additional $10 surcharge - bit of a money grab there, especially so they can serve low quality food and get away with it and you are stuck eating it, which was the case for the lotus chips. Never in my life have I ever had such a worser set of lotus chips, it was obvious the chips are either low quality lotus, over fried or fried in the same oil as a tempura because they were bitter and dry.
Overall, given that the manager was clearly speaking Mandarin to other patrons, which itself is a strike, the third and final strike was the food quality, would rather go to Sushi Wawa in Innaloo than dine in this establishment again,...
