Great location on the Myer Street Precinct. Yes the place still has density limits but you can wait outside. I was expecting a 15min wait, but they said it would take 10min. It ended up being about 11min, but the chips were great. The grilled flake didn't look any special as it looked dry and a bit oily when I took it out of the packaging. But overall was a good fish shop.
2022 Update.
I think there are new owners and the density limits are gone (like ages ago). I came here for a Sunday lunch with my Pop. I felt that the meal this time was quite rushed because it took like 8 minutes to make the meal. The chips were good, the chiko roll was nice and hot (cheaper than at Orbost), but the grilled fish was even more oily than the last fish from this fish shop we ate from a year ago. What else is disappointing is that we ordered two potato cakes with out meal but we received an extra oily fish instead.
The service of this place has gone downhill and despite being the original fish and chips place in Lakes, this place has gotten worse and its glory days are over. Go elsewhere until there is new owners and I'll assess the review to see if this place...
Read moreReally disappointed with seafood fish n chip pack for two. Overpriced for the quality of food served. The gummy shark was obviously hacked down to a very small size and grilled with an awful spice mix. It wrecked the flavour of what little fish was there. The chips (tiny serving though), scallops and calamari were the better part of the meal. Seafood stick was terrible and the batter left a dirty oil after taste. I dont know what the tartare sauce was made of. It was odd tasting too, lumpy and jelly like. Threw it and half the meal away. Very sad. Have been going to this fish n chip shop for last 12 years because of high standards and quality of food and service. Today a glass was broken and when the staff member came out to sweep up the shards, they swept around 2 dirty tissues under the customer seats and left them. Yuk. Will be trying somewhere else in future. Good luck with...
Read moreI really wanted to give these guys 5 stars, because they take so much care with the gluten free - cooked in separate fryer, labelled as coeliac so no mixups. The chips were great, the batter is great. Make with rice bran oil too which I appreciate due to some other seed oils giving me reflux. And they actually heat up the oil in the separate fryer properly, so everything is properly crispy and not too greasy. (I’ve had gf fish and chips elsewhere where they’d cook the food too early and you’d end up with everything being soggy and greasy.
The big but is that you can only get the gummy shark gf, and it smells pretty disgusting - kind of like sewerage. I couldn’t get past it and had to throw most of my fish away, which was disappointing. Would appreciate the option of something like the Blue Grenadier in future. But thanks for caring so much about the gluten free...
