Funkey Monkey Cafe at Lakes Entrance is a solid choice for a meal in a tourist spot. Prices are reasonable, the food portions are generous and tasty, and the coffee is smooth and served quickly. However, the wait time for food was long, especially during our brunch visit on a public holiday. One thing to note: we were initially seated at a four-seat table, but when a two-seat table became free, we were asked to move. Unfortunately, no assistance was offered to carry our coffee, water, and cakes over. Interestingly, by the time we left, the original four-seat table still hadn’t been taken. We’re happy to help with seating efficiency but would appreciate if moves are only requested when necessary or with a bit more assistance. Overall, a nice spot with good food, just room for a little more customer care.

I very rarely give bad reviews so kind of sad that this one is. We had a week at Lakes Entrance and decided to only eat out for one breakfast and waited until our last morning, sadly for us we were very disappointed, at $60 we expected a lot better than what we received - unfortunately we cannot recommend, even Maccas breakfasts would beat what we had. Eggs were good, we had fried, sunny side up. The bacon was either previously cooked (strongly suspected) or over cooked, either way not great. I don’t know what oil used for the hash browns but think it was old and needed changing, they just tasted offish, I couldn’t finish them. My partner agreed that theirs wasn’t good either. Hot chocolates were ok but nothing special. The staff were lovely and it wasn’t busy so not sure why our meal was so poor.

We stopped in Lakes Entrance on our way to Merimbula and decided to try Funkey Monkey Café after reading some mixed reviews — and we absolutely loved it! They had plenty of gluten-free options, and I really appreciated that the waitress asked whether I was gluten-free by choice or coeliac. We ordered the gluten-free eggs benedict and a cheeseburger, and both meals were absolutely scrumptious. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend Funkey Monkey Café to anyone passing through Lakes Entrance.

Down on holidays, I was told to go to the Funkey Monkey Cafe, based on the reviews we decided to give it a go. We went a total of 3 times over our week here with 3 different outcomes. They took the same amount of money for each meal each time, the service was acceptable but what we received in meals varied dramatically between day one to day three. First, I ordered the bruschetta and it came out on two slices of toast packed with smash avo and poached eggs, It looked fantastic and the food was excellent. Then 2 days I ordered three takeaway meals, a burger with gluten-free toast, no chips and no cheese, ( charged $6 more for gluten free toast - understandable but didn't offer a discount for no chips or no cheese), another bruschetta meal we smash avo and a standard cheeseburger. When we got home, the gluten-free burger with no chips and no cheese was covered with melted cheese and sadly my wife who doesn't eat dairy had to scrape off the cheese then spent the next 2 hours with stomach cramps. I called and spoke to the owner/manager, and all he said was sorry about that. No reason why, just said sorry about that as if he wasn't interested then hung up. The bruschetta meal came with two pieces of toast and smashed avo as it did previously and was delicious, the other burger was also nice and chips great. This morning I went there for a meeting with my cousin for breakfast and I ordered the smashed avo on bruschetta again only to be delivered with just 1 piece of toast this time, confused by this, I questioned the owner/manager about the 2nd piece, again tells me that's how they come, I got the impression by his response he wasn't happy with me questioning the food quantity or the inconsistency. Once I'd completed my meal and we were about to finish up, the cook came out with a piece of buttered bruschetta with nothing on it, he placed it on the table, didn't say anything or provide a reason then walked away, completely random.... At no time did the owner/manager come over to discuss my frustrations, he just made coffee. So my takeaway from this experience was the prices didn't change over my three visits. The inconsistency in the bruschetta smashed avo breakfast on the final day was confusing to me as it was the same price I paid previously on two occasions except smaller day 3. The dietary requirements for the gluten-free burger were very specific, the counter staff wrote down the instructions very clearly, only to find that the owner wasn't even interested in providing any other solution or rectification of an unsatisfactory meal specifically dietary, which is a lot more important than quantity. My advice is to be very clear on instructions, and question the owner/manager if your not satisfied or didn't get what you ordered, don't be surprised if he doesn't...

We visited Funkey Monkey Cafe and were initially told that our food would take 20–25 minutes, but we ended up waiting for 50 minutes, and it still hadn’t arrived.

The most frustrating part was seeing people who arrived 20 minutes after us, ordering the same scrambled or fried eggs, getting their food, eating, and leaving while we were still waiting. When I asked the lady manager, she said that “easy ones like fried eggs come early.” However, we had also ordered scrambled eggs, so it didn’t make sense how others who ordered the same dish were served much earlier.

I completely understand that there may have been a staff shortage, but orders should at least be prepared and served in the order they were received. If certain items are ready earlier, they should be served instead of waiting for the entire order to be completed. Unfortunately, we had a hungry, crying child waiting nearly an hour for food, which made the experience even more frustrating.

That being said, once the food finally arrived, it was delicious and absolutely worth the wait. The flavors were great, and we really enjoyed the meal. I just hope they work on improving their service and prioritization...

If you're looking for a cozy coffee shop with friendly staff, delicious food, and amazing coffee, look no further than Funkey Monkey! I've been a regular customer for months now, and every visit is a delightful experience.

The service at this coffee shop is top-notch. The staff are always welcoming, helpful, and attentive, making me feel right at home from the moment I step inside. They take the time to chat with me and make sure I have everything I need to enjoy my visit.

But the real stars of the show are the food and coffee. Every item on the menu is carefully crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and it shows in the taste. Whether I'm in the mood for a breakfast sandwich, a salad, or a pastry, I know I can count on Funkey Monkey to deliver a delicious meal.

And of course, the coffee is truly exceptional. From the rich and creamy lattes to the bold and flavorful pour-overs, every cup is a treat for the senses, a unique and delightful experience.

Overall, I can't recommend Funkey Monkey enough. If you're looking for a warm and welcoming coffee shop with great service, fantastic food, and amazing coffee, this is the place to go. 5...
