I recently visited Sodi Cafe and had a mixed but overall positive experience.
Environment: The atmosphere was a bit of a letdown. A large group dominated the space, being excessively loud to the point that other guests (including us) were visibly uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the one staff member present not only allowed but seemed to encourage this behavior, which detracted from the otherwise charming ambiance. Feedback was left with the counter upon departure, and I hope it’s taken on board.
Food: I ordered the spicy 'umami' chili scramble, but what arrived was a lovely, albeit overly sweet scramble with no chili kick. For a dish described as “spicy,” it felt misleading—especially for those of us who enjoy a proper heat level. A suggestion: consider offering different spice levels so the dish can cater to a wider range of tastes.
Coffee: The coffee was excellent, especially for an early morning visit. It was rich, flavorful, and exactly what I needed to start the day.
Service: While the food and coffee were good, I wish the staff had been more engaging. Aside from taking our order, we didn’t have any further interaction. A little more connection with the guests could elevate the overall experience.
Will I Return? Yes. Despite some hiccups, the food and coffee were enjoyable, and I believe there’s potential for this cafe to shine even more with some adjustments.

Cute, bright and and Sunday morning vibes. We grabbed drinks here after eating breakfast at a hit and miss venue nearby. Sodi was recommended by friends of ours who are local, who we meet with AFTER our breakfast.
Our friends ate and their meals looked amazing. The French toast smelt as delicious as my friend said it was, and the gnocchi was gone before I finished my coffee (maybe I'm a slow drinker, I don't know). Anyway, the speed at which it was devoured indicated to me that it was well worth ordering.
A word of warning, though, with the milkshakes. The straw could stand upright in my husband's chocolate milkshake. He joked when ordering: "I'm having a big boys drink". I think it finished him. The milkshakes are a meal, so watch out.
All round, though, it's a great venue, with more space than what you can see from the street. Cute cakes and good coffee if that's all you're after as well. We'll be back again when...
Read moreWhat a chill spot. We disembarked the Spirit of Tasmania this morning, Googled “best breakfast near me”, and headed straight to Sodi Cafe. Wow. What a great cafe/restaurant. A very friendly welcome, great fresh juices presented quickly whilst we perused the menu. I am a fan of chilli scrambled eggs and these are the absolute best I have ever tasted. Made with local Geelong Chilli oil, spinach, shallots, spring onions and more. Outstanding. My better half had plain scrambled eggs and about a kg of bacon - which of course I had to help her eat 🤪. And then 2 good flat whites to go for the drive to Melbourne.
I told the manager/owner that I would happily drive from Melbourne to Geelong to have breakfast at his place.
Highly recommended. And just an 8 minute drive after you get off the ferry.
Way to...
