My partner and I visited for the first time on Saturday to grab a couple of takeaway hot chocolates. It was very busy and took about 20 minutes for 2 hot chocolates! When we finally got our drinks—milk chocolate chili and dark orange—we were shocked at how small the cups were, especially considering they cost about $13 each! When we opened the lids, both were filled under halfway!
The hot chocolate itself was delicious, but it definitely felt overpriced for the quantity we received. My partner's dark orange flavor was incredibly rich and he didn't detect much orange flavour; mine was pretty tasty, though.
From what I observed, those who dined in seemed to get much better value for their money, so we're considering that for our next visit. Ultimately, it was just a lot of money for only a few sips of hot chocolate. I really wish I had taken a photo to show how tiny the cup was and to show how little it was filled up - it was honestly less than half full. Would have loved it topped up with a bit of milk or something. Or if the vibe is thick, rich chocolate, I think it would be beneficial to give customers two options, say a smaller takeaway cup with rich hot chocolate (so the size given isn't deceiving), then the current small takeaway size that is less rich, but reasonable quality. Not sure, but anyway, the shop has a...
Read moreAs someone who absolutely loves hot chocolate, I was genuinely excited to visit the Daylesford Hot Chocolate Company. Unfortunately, what I had hoped would be a joyful and indulgent experience turned out to be quite miserable.
From the moment I arrived, the service felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. I am anaphylactic and always make a point to communicate this clearly and respectfully when ordering. While I completely understand that accommodating allergies can be stressful, I was taken aback by the judgmental and dismissive attitude of the staff (plural). Rather than simply explaining the risks of cross-contamination (which I expect and appreciate), there was visible eye-rolling and resistance to basic requests—like using different tongs. It felt as though I was being an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.
To add to the disappointment, the quality of the hot chocolate itself was underwhelming. There was confusion about which drink was which, and the person serving them left abruptly without clarifying anything.
Sadly, I cannot recommend this place until there is a significant improvement in both customer service and allergen sensitivity. Hot chocolate should feel comforting—this experience was...

($9.00) ☕️Vanuatu Dark 72% — flavours of tropical fruits, tobacco, toffee, caramel and malt. Beautifully balanced bitterness, sweetness and tartness. Aromatic hints of rosewood, coffee and cherry. Ethically sources, single origin ($10.50)
They had so many unique flavours of hot chocolate, such as your classic dark, milk, white chocolate, to some different ones such as dark chilli, dark ginger, dark cinnamon, vanatu milk, dark tumeric and pepper, dark fennel, dark cardamom and pink salt hot chocolate! The hot chocolate was soooo good, probably the best I’ve ever tried! It was so rich and creamy, and we even brought the hot chocolate powder home to make some more back home— it was incredible. It was such a comforting cup of hot chocolate, like a big warm hug 🥹. $10 is quite expensive for a drink, but it’s worth the experience if you’re ever in the area!
It was honestly every chocolate...
