Contrary to what the people of Daylesford would have you believe, Daylesford is only a momentary drive from neighbouring towns such as Ballarat. This gives rise to the opportunity to taste what Reuben sandwiches Wombat Hill House has to offer. I had ordered the Reuben toasty which was hastily brought out by an individual sporting a Deicide shirt. It’s nice to know atheists are welcome at this establishment. The components of the toasty were well curated, the pastrami and sauerkraut made a nice combo and pickles had a nice tang but didn’t mask the mustard. There did seem to be a surprising lack of cheese which was a slight disappointment however the other ingredients still allowed the sandwich to be enjoyed. The venue was very accomodating and I see myself returning next time I feel like spontaneously traversing an immensely short distance to Daylesford to enjoy some food.

Great little cafe! We were very lucky to find it open during a public holiday as not many things are open in Daylesford. There a big inside area but the outside is also very nice, you can come with your dog as it's 🐶 friendly! It was a Shane the day we went it was raining as we couldn't do the walks through the gardens around. The food is nice, they have a breakfast menu that finishes at 11:30am and the lunch one starts at 12pm. Staff is really friendly and helpful. You definitely need to go home with a loaf of bread or a baguette, as they are delicious!

What a find, it just took half my adult life living in Ballarat to discover this lovely place.. It was by chance, because it was the first place in Daylesford I found to be open for New Years Day...and it's just perfect...Took my old mum, and we just had a delicious lunch, terrific happy staff, and just my kind of perfect, to be able sit..amongst the vines and olive and fig trees...We loved it so much we had to re-live the experience two days later...And was just as wonderful! And OH, the coffee is to really good too!!!! Thanks Wombat Hill House!

I’m writing to express how disappointed I was when I visited the Wombat Hill House Cafe for the first time on Easter Saturday. My daughter-in-law chose the location and emailed the cafe in advance to check if they catered for patrons on a Gluten Free (GF) diet and she was assured there were GF options.

We were seated in the casual outdoor area as there was a group of 5 adults and 2 children. I attempted to order a simple GF toasted sandwich and was refused by who I assumed to be the MaĆ®tre d’. He explained that the kitchen was busy and for that reason they would not be straying from the set menu. He proceeded to offer me GF pizza or the choice of 2 salads which were on display in the fridge at the counter.

Due to my terminal illness and recent bout of stomach upsets I declined the offer and returned to the table.

During the meal, my son approached the MaĆ®tre d’ and asked for some fruit for his little girls and he was told no as it wasn’t on the menu. A waitress overheard the conversations and quickly responded and delivered 2 bowls of freshly cut fruit to the table. She was friendly and polite as she took care of our table throughout the meal.

As we were leaving the cafe I approached the MaĆ®tre d’ and calmly explained to him that I wasn’t trying to be funny or difficult but I just simply can’t eat pizza. I also explained that I have stage 4 cancer and I take every opportunity I can to have lunch with my children and I had to go without lunch due to him refusing me a simple toasted sandwich. I then turned to walk away and he called out and had a go at me for not letting him explain his reasons. I promptly reminded him that he had already had his say and I...

Cute little cafe, we came here on a public holiday, it wasn’t overly busy when we came

We came just after 11 and we were advised they had already stopped serving breakfast once seated with no menus or water, it took them approx 20mins to seat us and gets us menus and due to their delays unfortunately we missed out on breakfast and only had a limited menu to pick from before their lunch menu started at 12

We opted for the breakfast pizza and the Ruben sandwich with some hot cross buns to take away - the hot cross buns where a let down, whilst they were light and fluffy there wasn’t much flavour to it and barely any fruit in the one I had

Our biggest let down was the service, we were greeted by someone who couldn’t speak English and either of us had no clue what was trying to be said and we felt bad for the staff member because we could see their frustration, the other lady which I would assume was a senior staff member if not the manager was directing the staff members who couldn’t speak English to greet and seat people, she eventually took over she seemed like she was constantly in a rush and was short due to being in a hurry this unfortunately let our...

Visited today during a day trip for mine and my fiancé’s anniversary. I went in alone to ask if it was okay to be seated out the back with our dog as he’s a bit anxious and the waitress looked me up and down and told me no, no one is sitting out the back as it had been wet so that seating is closed today.

I was happy to accept this so I left for a moment and returned to order takeaway and had to watch the waitress immediately accept a group of people (two groups in-fact) with a dog and child into the area I requested which was apparently ā€œclosedā€ today. I paid $45 for two sandwiches and a coffee and as I waited I watched her wipe down the tables, seats and get these people cushions… it was so disheartening.

The way i was looked at mixed with the groups that were allowed entry being entirely white its really hard to not feel that it is because of my skin colour.

The food and coffee was tasty but man, what an awful experience. The second star was for the food and atmosphere. I sadly wont...
