Iām writing to express how disappointed I was when I visited the Wombat Hill House Cafe for the first time on Easter Saturday. My daughter-in-law chose the location and emailed the cafe in advance to check if they catered for patrons on a Gluten Free (GF) diet and she was assured there were GF options.
We were seated in the casual outdoor area as there was a group of 5 adults and 2 children. I attempted to order a simple GF toasted sandwich and was refused by who I assumed to be the MaĆ®tre dā. He explained that the kitchen was busy and for that reason they would not be straying from the set menu. He proceeded to offer me GF pizza or the choice of 2 salads which were on display in the fridge at the counter.
Due to my terminal illness and recent bout of stomach upsets I declined the offer and returned to the table.
During the meal, my son approached the MaĆ®tre dā and asked for some fruit for his little girls and he was told no as it wasnāt on the menu. A waitress overheard the conversations and quickly responded and delivered 2 bowls of freshly cut fruit to the table. She was friendly and polite as she took care of our table throughout the meal.
As we were leaving the cafe I approached the MaĆ®tre dā and calmly explained to him that I wasnāt trying to be funny or difficult but I just simply canāt eat pizza. I also explained that I have stage 4 cancer and I take every opportunity I can to have lunch with my children and I had to go without lunch due to him refusing me a simple toasted sandwich. I then turned to walk away and he called out and had a go at me for not letting him explain his reasons. I promptly reminded him that he had already had his say and I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCute little cafe, we came here on a public holiday, it wasnāt overly busy when we came
We came just after 11 and we were advised they had already stopped serving breakfast once seated with no menus or water, it took them approx 20mins to seat us and gets us menus and due to their delays unfortunately we missed out on breakfast and only had a limited menu to pick from before their lunch menu started at 12
We opted for the breakfast pizza and the Ruben sandwich with some hot cross buns to take away - the hot cross buns where a let down, whilst they were light and fluffy there wasnāt much flavour to it and barely any fruit in the one I had
Our biggest let down was the service, we were greeted by someone who couldnāt speak English and either of us had no clue what was trying to be said and we felt bad for the staff member because we could see their frustration, the other lady which I would assume was a senior staff member if not the manager was directing the staff members who couldnāt speak English to greet and seat people, she eventually took over she seemed like she was constantly in a rush and was short due to being in a hurry this unfortunately let our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited today during a day trip for mine and my fiancĆ©ās anniversary. I went in alone to ask if it was okay to be seated out the back with our dog as heās a bit anxious and the waitress looked me up and down and told me no, no one is sitting out the back as it had been wet so that seating is closed today.
I was happy to accept this so I left for a moment and returned to order takeaway and had to watch the waitress immediately accept a group of people (two groups in-fact) with a dog and child into the area I requested which was apparently āclosedā today. I paid $45 for two sandwiches and a coffee and as I waited I watched her wipe down the tables, seats and get these people cushions⦠it was so disheartening.
The way i was looked at mixed with the groups that were allowed entry being entirely white its really hard to not feel that it is because of my skin colour.
The food and coffee was tasty but man, what an awful experience. The second star was for the food and atmosphere. I sadly wont...
