This was our first time in Australia, visiting my sister, brother-in-law, and niece in Perth, along with my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and her friend from Malaysia. After some sightseeing in South Perth, we started feeling hungry and googled for nearby halal Indian food, that’s how we found D’Tandoori....
When we arrived, the restaurant was actually closed (they open for lunch 12:00–2:00 PM and dinner 5:00–9:30 PM). I’d recommend checking their hours beforehand. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the Chef Arokiaraj Savarimuthu (Raj), kindly welcomed us in and opened the restaurant for us.
The restaurant was clean, well-organized, and decorated with South Asian and Southeast Asian touches. The washrooms were spotless and fully stocked. We ordered lamb biryani, butter chicken, chicken masala, white rice, and a few other dishes. Chef Raj cooked everything himself from scratch, something rare these days, and the food was absolutely delicious, with authentic flavors. To our delight, they even served Teh Tarik, a Malaysian favorite that made us feel at home.
Chef Raj was very friendly, helpful, and informative. We also learned about the history of D’Tandoor, founded in Malaysia in 1984, and later expanding into Australia. The South Perth branch opened in 2008.
Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience. Great food, warm hospitality, and highly recommended for authentic halal...
Read moreWe have been regulars for over 3 years now, and this place has never disappointed. The menu has options for everybody (meat, seafood, veggies, mild, spicy, etc.) and the food itself is superb. So full of flavour that it makes it really hard not to want more. Furthermore, the portions are very generous so we find the menu to be well priced considering the quality and amount of food you get. Takeaways are a little bit cheaper and usually ready for pickup within 30 minutes from when you place your order. Last but not least, what makes this place standout is the hospitality of the whole team. The service is simple and basic, but punctual and very warm. It is a family business that behaves like one, and makes you feel part of it. Highly recommended. Cannot recommend a particular dish as everything we have tried was great. If undecided, pick your main ingredient (seafood, meat, veggies) and the level of spiciness you want and this will narrow it right down. Don't forget to try their appetizers as the meals are cooked on order so there is time. The naan is not...
Read moreWe really enjoy the food but I did notice that the menu prices for dine-in are far higher than takeaway. Not sure if this is a norm in Australia but even if so I felt the difference (about $5 per dish) is unwarranted. No wonder this place is always empty. The takeaway prices are reasonable. I would rate my experience with the takeaway ordering 4/5, but then we dined in...
The service has always been great. Friendly and hospitable whether for takeaway or dine-in. About the food itself. What turned me off when we dined in was the vegetable pekora. They weren't burned by overcooking, they were however almost black and tasted of old oil. CHANGE YOUR OIL! So gross! Served with no sauce. Any chef should be embarrassed to serve food like that, especially with the surcharge
I liked the lamb korma and chicken jalfrezie but the thing with the pekoras makes me question the freshness of the ingredients and I'm unsure if we'll return. Also they use nut ingredients in dishes you normally wouldn't expect so if you have...
