Some of my friends might say that the greatest triumph of the week was the lovely and long awaited proposal to his long-term girlfriend by a fine and beloved gentleman we know. He, and others, might instead argue the greatest triumph was another wonderful friend and his effort spent to facilitate a wonderful surprise engagement party celebration of said proposal.

But nay! I say, (facetiously I admit) as I reflect on both this evening where I so thoroughly enjoyed my dinner, followed by said engagement party, the greatest triumph of my week is the incredible Local Bird of Tuart Hill.

First impressions are a dining area abuzz with conversion and ablaze with glorious food. Every table was occupied and the line to order overflowed out the door, a promising start indeed.

Once the queue had dissipated enough to allow me close to the counter, I spied the delightful sight of a flat plate grill with some beautifully executed smashed bovine patties. However, this night I had already chosen instead an option from the namesake half of the menu, that of fiery fried fowl.

Forgive the spoiler, but I have no regrets whatsoever about this decision. Being the masochistic thrill seeker that I am, I opted of course for the spiciest option, requesting it with extra heat.

This meal delivered in spades on every possible front. Thank you for bearing with my rambling, but now the stage is set, this review can begin in earnest:

Presentation: A thing of beauty to behold, this burger is a feast for the eyes and its incredible size makes it quite the undertaking for the stomach. There's a lot to admire about how this burger looks, along with a lot of burger to admire.

Taste & Texture: The first thing that struck me as I sunk my teeth into this delightful monstrosity was how this must be the crunchiest fried chicken I've ever had in my life. Many fried chicken burgers I've tried in Perth can make the boast of being very "Cwispy" (as the foodie millennials are saying), but none have come close to having this level of audible and satisfying crunch, except maybe Drasko's. But even then, Local Bird wins my #1 spot for crunchiest fried chicken in Perth.

The second thing that struck was just how much flavour had been packed into this battered breast. Some with a more refined palate might complain of "over-seasoning" (perhaps due to my request for extra spice), but in my book, as long as each flavour note can be heard singing clearly amongst the symphony - which in this case was of course true - then I have to give full points in the taste department. My taste buds sang to the conductor-chef's tune and the nerves in my mouth rang with the euphoric pain from the chilli heat. This burger is delivering value for money both on the size and the amount of seasoning packed into each serving.

The third and final thing that struck me (my respect for the delightful growing chilli-related pain I was experiencing aside), was how well cooked this chicken breast was, somehow at the same time both the crunchiest exterior and yet maintaining the juiciest interior of any fried chicken burger I can recall eating.

Sides: Unsurprisingly, no plain and boring chips can be found here. This menu boasts umami chips, again with rich yet balanced and outstanding flavour, not to mention a lovely bit of crunch, though that crunch won't hold a candle to the chicken.

I even had the privilege of trying their onion rings. Much like the chicken, lovely and crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy onion inside, with a very generous amount of seasoning so it packs a flavour punch. These are easily the best and most flavourful onion rings I've ever tried.

If I had one minor complaint here, it would be a lack of dipping sauces for sides available on the menu.

You know you've found a great spot when, (while you're still eating the meal) you're already planning your next opportunity to visit. So while you might struggle to secure a table here, if you're a fan of a good fried chicken burger, I highly recommend making a visit to...

Hey Honey (BOM) add Maple Bacon Fries with Aioli

Another top chicken burger from this place. A generous serving of crispy coated juicy chicken. Complemented with a delicious, well balanced sweet and slightly spicy, sticky honey. Toppped off with crispy, tasty maple bacon and onion rings. The fries were also on point, well seasoned crispy, and went well with the aioli sauce. Fast friendly service with meal arriving within 15 minutes.

A Local Favourite That Never Misses – Local Bird Tuart Hill

Local Bird in Tuart Hill is a standout spot that truly lives up to its name – local, friendly, and absolutely delicious! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a relaxed vibe, great music, and the irresistible aroma of seriously good food.

The fried chicken here is hands-down some of the best in Perth – perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavour. The burgers are equally impressive – generous, fresh, and crafted with care. Their sides (especially the loaded fries!) are addictive, and the sauces are next-level.

The staff are always welcoming, fast, and efficient – even when it gets busy, the service stays smooth and friendly. It’s clear that the team here takes pride in what they do.

Whether you’re grabbing a casual meal, catching up with mates, or treating yourself to a comfort food fix, Local Bird delivers every time. Great food, great people, and great vibes – what more could you want?

Highly recommended – this place is a...

Well after a long days work, there’s nothing better than a good feed, and that’s exactly what we got when a few work mates, and I visited the Local Bird in Tuart Hill. We grabbed a seat and table inside and then made our order, 2 local shacks burgers, and a Le Montreal burger with aside of some onion rings and the Chicken bite loaded fries. From placing our order, the food was delivered to our table in around 15 minutes which I was super impressed with, and the taste of the freshly made burgers didn’t disappoint either. The only thing I’d change would be the onion rings, I think some homemade onion rings would complement the rest of the fresh food. The Local bird is definitely a place to visit, the minimalist shop, is just enough and just shows they are concentrating on good quality food the serve at good prices. Overall the staff there very polite and efficient, quick service and good food. I’ll definitely be going back to try one off there there chicken burgers.
