Went to Bar Uma at the Pan Pacific hotel in Perth for high tea this afternoon. As I walked in I was greeted at the door and happy to see the staff pounce on the Covid safe procedures before allowing me through. As I walked up to Bar Uma, live piano music played in the background. The atmosphere was nice but very busy and the lovely staff seemed to struggle through the service. A few more hands needed on deck, but the staff did a great job under pressure. The place was packed, and I mean like sardines, I was shocked just how many beautiful ladies managed to fit in the lovely restaurant! But once service sprang into action, I could see why.... beautiful traditional China, hot tea, lots of absolutely delicious offerings to tempt every taste bud, enough food that we all wondered how we would accomplish this mission, but you just couldn't leave these magic morsels lonely on their plates! No, we helped out by eating every last blissful mouthful! Our party all agreed what a lovely time we had, what good food we ate and that we would return one day. I've got a few pictures for you so you know what to look out for. This would have been a 5 star rating for sure however, my feedback is... remove those silly bands that go around the edges of the tables! My gold chain got caught in the gap, and so did my my gold bracelet, in the same spot! Its actually quite unfortunate that there are crumbs etc in the grooves. These really need to go! It was lucky my friends were able to use a fork to leverage out the chains without breaking them! When I come back and that issue has been addressed, I'm sure it will be 5 stars. Until then ...
Read moreMy mum dined here last year and said the food was high quality, varied, and plentiful, so we came back this year for her birthday. As she noted, the standard is not even remotely the same, and it's very obvious. The venue has seemingly no acoustic dampening, so between the din of overcrowding and the pianist in the adjacent foyer trying to be heard, communication was difficult. As advertised, the sparkling wine was free-flowing, though not enough to compensate for the absolutely abysmal food and slow, understaffed albeit polite service. The 'Spring Lamb & Saltbush Feuilleté ' was a tiny smear of cold, pulled lamb on a stale, dry, cube of puff pastry. The cheese of the 'Blue Cheese & Walnut Bouché ' was cracking around the edges - as is like to happen when left in a fridge for days, and the bread it was served on was tacky and chewy rather than the crisp wafer it appeared to be. The oysters at least appeared to be fresh. The assortment of sweets were all far too dense, and overly-sweetened to the point of being not much more than a mouthful of sugar. The various savoury dishes all tasted alright, but nothing special.
tl;dr- I'm not one to go out of my way to post negative reviews unless i feel like something is especially egregious. $75 a head for what amounted to 20 dollars worth of alcohol and some cafe food of questionable quality, in a noisy, overcrowded venue, is very, very far from the quality i expected. This experience very much felt like a cheap cash grab thrown together at the...
Read moreI’m really disappointed I have to write this review! I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and have always spoken quite highly of the customer service and rooms, however I regret encouraging everyone to want to have high tea at Bar Uma in Pan Pacific. A number of people at our table mentioned being spoken to rudely, there was a huge attitude by one of the girls who was serving our table. We felt like we waited FOREVER for our food to arrive, meanwhile everyone around us was eating and being taken care of. I’m pretty sure we were the last people to eat and our food arrived at about 3:20pm?? High tea started at 2pm. The food was terrible, it was not fresh in the slightest, the pastries were dry and almost stale, almost everything given to us felt like it had been sitting out the back a day or two before serving. I get that it was busy? But we had booked this table and event NOT last minute and we did not feel like a priority at all, in fact most of us felt like we were inconveniencing some of the staff. Maybe it was the package we got? I saw some of the people around us with completely different food, maybe they had a better experience. We did not, I don’t like making bad reviews so this was hard. But I think for high tea in the future we’ll give...
