The one star is for the staff who had to assist me get in and out of the room and the Pearl restaurant. The first room I was given could not be unlocked until I yelled to a lovely staff member who spent 5 minutes wrestling with the lock. Once she had the lock open she had to spend another 2 minutes trying to get the sliding panel to move. This involved both of us physically wrestling with the door to get it square in the frame to get it to open far enough for me to enter. I apologised thinking it was my age and arthritic wrists - staffer assured me it was not and she hated trying to clean the room because it takes her as long to get in and out as it does to clean. I asked if management were aware and was told they were and each time there was a complaint the maintenance man was told just to replace the lock. ||That night after the exhausting battle to get the door open I went to walk to a shop and was punched by a very drunken local girl while her equally drunk friend tried to rip my handbag off my shoulder. While the Roebuck Bay Hotel is in no way at fault for this incident it certainly was unsettling to say the least. I am a disability pensioner with PTSD so getting off the street and safe was very very important I found the iron gate around the accommodation units also had a 'quirky' lock and had to go into the Pearl restaurant and ask for assistance. Very helpful girl came out and opened the gate explaining it took a bit of jiggling and twisting as the lock was 'old'. Once through the gate I headed for the room and spent over 5 minutes trying to unlock the door before finally getting it open. I have to say I was getting very rattled and on the verge of an anxiety attack when I could not lock the room. I had to go back out to reception and ask if anything could be done and the lovely receptionist had to lock reception to come and help me. She eventually offered me another room but had to return to reception resulting in me having to walk back to reception to get the key for the other room while all my possessions were in a room wide open for anyone to steal. Back through the gate and into my new room where the door proved almost as hard to open but I eventually got the lock undone and again had to wrestle the sliding door panel to gain access. Once inside I wanted to have a shower but discovered even after using all my body weight to 'close' the door the frame and sliding panel the locking mechanism was no longer aligned and would not lock again. ||I spent a very long night pushing the bed up against the door frame to give me some sense of security.||The final straw was the next morning. After rearranging the furniture id pushed against the door I found it would not slide more than 10cm before jamming. After trying to open it enough to get out the anxiety attack I had been fighting all night took over and I realised unless I did something drastic my PTSD condition was beginning to spiral into a major episode so I started banging on the door with my fists hard enough to either attract someone to help me or break through the glass to get out of there. Either option would have been OK - I would never intentionally break anything in a hotel room let alone a glass door. Luckily a young staffer heard and came down but she could not get the door to open any further at all and called the maintenance man who was 'surprise' replacing the lock on the room I had been moved from. ||It took the very kind maintenance man several more minutes of trying to lift the sliding panel in its frame to finally get it to half open - far enough to get out at least.||The issue is not fixable by just replacing locks ad nauseum. It is a major structural issue that needs to be addressed immediately or the Roebuck Bay hotel should change their policy to Not suitable for disabled guests. ||The Roebuck Bay hotel is such an iconic historic part of Broome it could be and should be on every visitor to Broome's must do list. Unfortunately it has deteriorated structurally to must eat a meal at the Roey but be aware staying at the Roebuck Bay hotel is dangerous to the point of being a death trap in the event of an emergency. ||To the staff - thank you for the help. To the owners - it's time to spend some money (and I see no evidence of a struggling business - you are aware of these issues) - do the right thing and invest in the next century by making accomodation SAFE. ||||Can recommend if you are a professional cage fighter and don't mind an overnight stay having the added bonus of your own personal escape room adventure. Cannot recommend for people who simply want to be able to autonomously stay there - because there is a good chance you may need to hammer on the door to...
Read moreOnce again you managed to get my vote for the worst run venue in Australia. Tonight's another gem. You stopped numerous paying people with tickets from entering your venue to see Ian Moss because they didn't have a hard copy of their licence. They were tourist, locals and even myself all in our 50s. We all had tickets and electronic I'd, but were made to either go home or for some not even able to watch the concert which they had tickets. So we drive home get the wife's license and return and your security doesn't even record any details or even both to look at them properly. What's the purpose? But it doesn't stop there, once you are in, now you are greeting with bar prices that are ridiculous. 1x Beer and 1 x Candian Club $34.50 thank you very much these are stubbles not pints. Nows here's the best part, after dealing with the massive security issue just to get in even with a ticket, you throw open the public bar later in the night so they can now enter the concert, no ticket and no showing of ID. If there is a worst run establishment in Australia please...
