Two years ago, we bought takeaway Pad Thai from Simply Thai, plus from the two other Thai restaurants in Victoria St, to compare them. Because, at the time, we considered the Pad Thai from Simply Thai being by far the best, last week we dined there in-house. We had a pot of Thai tea, 2 seafood Tom Kha, 1 beef red curry with 1 small coconut rice, and 1 crispy pork belly. The Tom Kha was the best we've had travelling 4 times around Oz, including our favourite Thai place in Melbourne, and told the owner this. The pork belly was not crispy and included mostly Kai Lan. Excluding the pork belly, we liked the dinner so much, we ordered two Pad Thai as takeaway, one prawn and one beef. Over the next two days, we had the Pad Thai takeaways. WOW! What a disappointment. For starters, the young waitress had asked how spicy we wanted them. This confused as, as we've never been asked that before, anywhere. I mean, Pad Thai is Pad Thai, right? Anyway, we replied medium. Well, my wife loves spicy food (I don't as a rule) but even she was gasping at how much chili had been thrown in. I, luckily, had the bottom of the container, whereas she had the top where all the chili sat. The next night, we now knowingly scraped off the heaps of chili before serving. How bloody ridiculous! Still, it tasted nothing like Pad Thai should taste. The worst we've ever had regardless of the chili. How can a restaurant serve up such nice food in-house and completely stuff it up for takeaway. Sorry,...
Read moreWe entered up a short flight of stairs at the entrance, into a classy room devoid of tacky Thai decorations so we had high expectations. And we were not disappointed. The service was prompt, attentive and informative, meals were served in a timely fashion, we did not wait for long at all. We had 2 dishes with a serve of Coconut Rice. First dish was the Tornado with mixed meat, cooked to tender perfection, with just enough heat to give the dish a good hum, and a very tasty sauce with crisp vegetables. Second dish was the Tamarind Fish Fillet and this was superb, also absolutely delicious, although we wanted a bit more fish. Our fussy Celiac son had a serve of Steamed Rice with a side of Thai Prawn Crackers, which our waiter explained to him were a little different to the Chinese variety so made sure if he was still keen to try them. They were happy to provide gluten-free soy sauce and our son ate every grain of rice in his bowl. Overall, a great experience (would make a lovely date night without the kids) the food was without fault and utterly delicious. No alcohol on the menu, only BYO. Will definitely come back again when we are...
Read moreWe've had dinner at Simply Thai twice now. And we've been really happy with the food and service both times. The green curry is the best we've had in Bunbury. It tasted fresh and light and had the typical taste profile of a green curry. I had the Laksa with prawns and my partner had the Laksa with squid. The amount of seafood and vegetable was very generous. We both thought some more noodles would have made it even better. At $26 it's not the cheapest Laksa you'll get but it is definitely the best we've had in terms of flavour and quality. The entrees we've tried are the fish cakes, spring rolls and potato prawns. All were beautifully cooked. The ambience is also really nice and the service is exceptional. BYO is a bonus. We'll...
