I would like to start off by saying I have never left a negative review, I prefer to sort the problem out with the establishment at the time. This event was no different. We were enjoying ourselves at The Royal on the Waterfront before going to a show at Crown. We had excellent service from a man with an accent (we didnt catch his name) and had our entre promptly. We then ordered dinner and realised we were starting to push it for time. Dinner arrived and my $49 medium-well Rib Eye steak had been completely cut into long pieces and was definitely over cooked (I actually prefer well done, so this is saying something). The waistress that delivered the meal looked uncomfortable as she served the steak and said "medium-well" (as it had been cut into pieces, you could see the problem easily). In another situation I would have simply asked for another but time did not allow for this. I started to cover the steak in sauce to try and make the best of the situation, but then decided to take a photo to show for feedback when we we went to pay. When we went to pay I asked why the steak was cut into pieces and the waitress said it was for "decorative purposes". I stated we were not after a free meal and gave her our feedback. She then went and got her manager Sonny. I had to repeat the feedback again and was met with a hostile response from Sonny, I showed the photo- which was pointless given that I had already covered the steak in sauce and was told by Sonny "that's what medium-well is". I then said it was not even slightly pink and that it was dry. Again, met with rude hostility, Sonny said she would refund the meal. We stated that this was not our reason for providing feedback and refused the free meal as our time constraints did not allow us to fix the issue at the time. I then proceeded to tell her that cutting the steak into pieces also meant that the steak goes cold. She cut me off and stated she was right next to the kitchen and that it was there for less than a minute before coming to our table. Had she lidtened, she would have realised I was referring to once the meal arrives. Mine was definitely hot when it arrived but unless you eat like a fast machine, by the time you get to the other "slithers" of steak, they are cold. The way this entire situation was handled was rude and dissapointing. We tried to give polite feedback without seeking any compensation and were met with a rude,...
Read moreOur table was double booked when we arrived. So we didn't have a 2 hour slot and I had to let them know we had several children under 2 ( grandma's birthday) and that there was no way we would be out in time for the next booking they had stuck on our table. The food was ( overpriced but) great apart from the salmon bowl which came with rice. I let the waiter know that the rice came out both cold and undercooked or stale to the point of being hard and dry. I had shared the plate with the table just to make sure I wasn't the only one of this opinion beforehand. No one wanted more than one bite. I let the waiter know that i didn't want a refund or anything but just to let someone know in case it was a bad batch. The waiter came back to inform me the chef tried it too and that there is nothing wrong with his rice.. firstly rude ...and secondly what is the point of coming back with that? We found it quite rude and also hilarious that they would respond that way given we didn't ask for them to remake the dish or refund it at all. Just as constructive criticism. 13 of us at this booking and we would not go back. Wait staff were flustered and seemed untrained including the head of house. For some reason they had the bookings blue tacked to the tables so as soon as you arrive you know what time each reservation is due for our table until 7:30pm... we were booked at 11:30am... filling the table with papers where kids will be with entertainment packs (which were quite cool) that include pencils and food with condiments... Quite silly for such a high end restaurant. They came back twice rearranging the papers and jamming them under the cutlery holder. makes the whole experience unwelcoming. They need a better system for bookings and better training for all staff including the chef who makes the rice 🤦🏼♀️
On the bright side they were great about grandma's birthday and even brought out baloons...
Read moreI went with my family on Sunday 27th December. The wait staff were attentive and took our orders very quickly. I shared the Caesar Salad with chicken and a pizza with my mother. All the food came out quickly which was great. We received our salad and chicken in a very small side dish (6 dollars extra for chicken I might add) the chicken was raw and pink and hardly worth the extra $6.00. The salad was ok but no poached egg. $24 for cos lettuce, bacon, croutons and cheese seems a little steep to me. We told the waiter about the chicken he was apologetic and took it back to be cooked.
Once the mains had been cleared we ordered coffees and dessert. My mum ordered the sticky date which was cold, dry and had a slither of the hot delicious sauce everyone loves she took 1 bite and decided to wasn’t worth eating. We told the wait staff about the sticky date and once again he was apologetic.
I went to female restroom and was shocked with the cleanliness. There was no bin for the paper towels so everyone was using them, then putting them in the sink. I checked under the sink to see if there was a bin but no. By that stage I was ready to leave.
We went and paid and were told there was no split billing , fair enough. I mentioned the state of the restroom to the staff member taking our payment. She said there should of been a bin in there I assured her there was not. She thanked me for letting her know. The main shock was seeing our bill! The issues with our food and not 1 item was amended with a 3.5% surcharge on top.
We go here every year for our family catch up over Christmas and this will certainly be the last. It was a very disappointing experience.
Even after emailing the below response. I have yet to hear...
